OUR OPINION: Rick Berg for Senate from N.D.
October 23, 2012 at 4:30 pm in Grand Forks Herald
If “hope and change” is to be more than the empty slogan of a failed president, the Senate can give it real meaning.
Rick Berg has the legislative experience, business common sense and conservative credentials to help the U.S. Senate make it happen. Continue Reading

The article was written by someone who didn’t put his/her name on it. And this will run in every Forum newspaper. So in other words the owner of Forum Communications backs Berg, the man who doesn’t back labor or farmers. In the state of North Dakota who does he back? Seriously…one of you Repubs tell us. I would like to know.
Now I am left with the impression the endoresement was written by The Forum…a phantom creature from Fargo-Moorhead.

If the owner of the newspaper wants to endorse Berg, the Forum will endorse Berg and serve their master. By implicitly attempting to tie Heitkamp to Obama in the editorial, this exposes their bias by using almost the same language as the negative ads of the PACS that floods the airwaves from outside the state rather describing what Berg will do differently rather than attack the opposing candidate. If, as they deplore, “Character assassination has no place in a North Dakota political campaign. “, the editorial board shows themselves to be hypocrites in their own language of the endorsement.

In reality…Why do newspapers endorse anyone? If newspapers want to give the appearence of actually being un-biased then shouldn’t they just print the facts about each candidate and let the readers make up their own minds? Each paper gets accused of being either too liberal or too conservative. Some of that might be warranted. But endorsments take them into a realm of being behind this political idealogy or that one regardless how they try to reason it out. I don’t know when, where, or why, newspapers started to endorse candidates, but I’d think they’d revisit the decision and even make it an issue “In Keeping With Unbiased Reporting We Will Suspend Candidate Endorsements.” Imagine if a little ol’ paper from ND did that….I wonder if that would leak into popular media and become a decussion nation wide? I’m guessing more people would like to see papers get out of the endorsement business. Because in the end….It’s still just one persons opinion….You can find many of those at coffe shops and taverns….And they’re all about as valuable

It is a head scratcher: One party control in ND with record surplus, lowest unemployment in the country, booming incomes, lower taxes and the other party running the country with record debt, high unemployment, middle class incomes going backwards, high gas prices…how can both Berg and Cramer be up double digits??
Hot debate. What do you think?

Berg, Cramer, Hoven and Dalrymple all found that oil and are personally employing thousands of people out there…right?

If Berg wins this, he’s going to be sitting in a Democratic Senate. Because Berg will follow his Republican handlers in his votes, that means he’s going to be on the losing end of everything in the Senate. Not only that, but he will end up alienating fellow Senators with his extreme partisanship so that creating bi-partisan legislation with them will not be possible. North Dakota will lose in the end.
If Heidi wins, she will join a group who will be crafting important legislation and she will be able to provide input from our citizens in that process. North Dakota wins with Heidi.

Realist, to be consistent that must mean you will be voting for Cramer in the U.S. House race and every republican candidate in the ND state House and Senate races.

Why does consistency trump every other factor? I vote the person not the party. You and Berg seem to have an awful lot in common in your approach to life.

You thought the concept of being in the majority was important enough to note that Berg would be in the minority and would be on the losing end of everything, and you further noted that Heitkamp would be with the majority and would therefore have input on legislation. But, apparently this is only a factor for you in this particular race and not in other races. Note, I also think it is a consideration, but if it is a consideration it should be apply consistently in every race. Your comments together suggest you only apply it retrospectively to support a decision you have apparently already made. So, what do Berg and I have in common? I don’t believe I have ever posted that I would be voting for Berg. Apparently challenging your consistency implies to you that I must support Berg.

Really? Why have 2 parties at all, winner take all. The system works because we have people that represent us, people we voted for. If that person is in the minority, they are there to fight for their values. Compromise and bipartisan solutions could benefit more people than a one party rule.

The choice is fairly simple: A candidate who has pledged to represent the wishes of the people of North Dakota — or a candidate who has pledged to represent the wishes of Grover Norquist.
In the secular democratic republic defined by the COTUS elected representatives are supposed to serve the people who elected them. Heidi has some credibility in her assurances that she will do just that.
In the quasi-theocratic plutocracy that is emerging as the GOP way of running things, the ideology is determined by folks like Norquist, the Koch brothers, and Karl “the architect” Rove. Berg has lots of credibility — and the track record — to assure voters that he will do just that.
The Herald has just endorsed the view that we deserve the best government that money can buy!

I should have added something more to illustrate the theocratic element behind the controllers of the modern GOP. That is specifically the religious right — and one element of that — the Catholic bishops — just showed their role as a contemporary PAC via the letter from Bishop Kagan that has been objected to by Tim Mathern (see: http://www.grandforksherald.com/event/article/id/247708/).
Notably, the Herald did not open the topic up for comments.

First an endorsement for jack darymple for governer. Someone who has not done a thing to push surplus money to improve infastructure in western nd. And now they endorse mr berg, a shameless self promoter who is actually ashamed of his own buisness dealings. Someone who served a year in the house in which he did not accomplish a thing and spent a second year campaigning and not accomplishing anything. That is one ticket to be proud of.

Well….With a Repo in there…SWometimes it’s better that they don’t do much rather than make a huge mess that the Dems have to clean up and then get blamed for the mess in the first place……Hmmmmm…That sounds like a situation someplace else….I wonder where that might be?

You jumped the gun, johnb. This was posted on Facebook. Now, can you imagine if our government had issued a statement saying that they believed a Facebook posting about who did this? I think it was prudent of them to wait until further corroboration was forecoming.

Chins really? Really? It is called an oil boom! It has 0 to do with red or blue and more to do with black! Black gold! No one can take credit for the boom except for the oil companies and support staff. If anything the republicans can take credit for the lack of urgancy to create infastructure while sitting on a surplus!

Johnb, please do yourself a favor and stop listening, watching, or reading fox news, glenn beck, rush limbaue and bill orielly. If it were real news that people were interested in we would be bombarded with lybia news in every media but we are not. What does that say? And it is not a conspiracy. Muslims and radicall groups are not trying to take over america.

This endorsement could be the BEST reason to vote for Heitkamp.
If the Forum news near monopoly supports Berg…real people shouldn’t.
