Two goals in the last five minutes of the first period put No. 13 Minnesota Duluth in too deep of a hole as No. 9 Notre Dame claimed a 4-1 victory to split a nonconference college men’s hockey series Friday night before a sellout crowd of 5,022 fans at the Compton Family Ice Arena in South Bend, Ind.

When one line up wins the previous night, why would you change the line up the next night only to lose. Second weekend in a row. UMD needs a full time goalie coach and speaking of which, Aaron Crandall is not the answer.

I disagree. Besides the split with a non-conference team, I think the weekend showed their are at least two viable goalies. That is, of course, unless we’re using disposable goalies where, after a loss, we throw him away. But the real highlight of the weekend was Welinski, a freshman who plays like a junior. Very solid defensively, no panic passes with some huge forward rushing him at the blue line but passes that actually went to someone. Now we have to get him to shoot. Very impressive young man.
