Duluth region adds most Sept. jobs in 20 years
October 18, 2012 at 7:00 pm in Duluth News Tribune
The Duluth region had its best September for job growth since 1992 with a spike of 2,200 jobs compared to August, according to statistics released Thursday by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development.

Well this is not good news at all. Even with the Koch Bros shuttering the Georgia Pacific Plant. Even with oil companies making record profits by pulling out as much income as possible out of the economy. Even when the T party is doing its job by holding back on the PTC for the wind industry and jobs are going to Brazil. Even when it appears that -gasp- government is getting smaller…. read
Minnesota gained 9,500 private-sector jobs but lost 3,600 government jobs for a net gain of 5,900 jobs…
Holy cow, how are the Republicans going to turn this good news into bad news? I am sure Karl Rove will man up to the challenge, but this good news can not be good.
OK, lets fall back on the family values card eh?

Especially impressive since Minnesota was ranked 6th worst state for business tax climate:

Imagine the boom we would be having if government in this state wasn’t so greedy.

See thats the way to do it, ‘quick, change the subject’ good job Karl. Find a conservative anti tax group to come up with a report that actually shows -gasp- taxes are bad and slow investment EVEN in the face of facts showing otherwise. You go Karl.

I did notice that you changed the subject from jobs to the Koch brothers after one sentence.

Hello? The Koch Bros. owned Georgia Pacific which shuttered plant and put people out of work in the ports and took their jobs elsewhere….so that wasn’t taking it anywhere, that was on point ….jobs.
He didn’t try to drag it off point, he was on point but you tried to drag it off point exactly like he predicted….priceless.

Yeah, David, maybe Minnesota should be more like Wisconsin. Oh, wait. Wisconsin is worse off than Minnesota. Hmm, maybe the GOP saying the same thing over and over again isn’t the truth after all. Perhaps the facts speak for themselves.

Interesting analysis, David… it scores states solely on tax rates, with no consideration of the benefits provided. By looking only at the price of government, those states with the largest economies, best schools and greatest innovation end up at the bottom of the list.

But Walker promised 25000 more jobs in Wisconsin. How can it be that a state with a democrat as governer have job growth? It just can’t be. Romney makes statements and promises too. Aren’t both Walker and Romney republicans?

Well….let’s hope this continues! 1 or 2 month’s ( in a row ) does not make a trend! But, either way, I hope it continues…….keep those private sector jobs increasing and some Gov’t jobs shrinking ( hopefully through attrition )

Wow! Now if we could just pray for biblical floods every year with 100 million+ windfalls from the State, we’ll be able to keep these new jobs for longer than a few months. Just playing with numbers to paint a rosy picture, I think. Guess what? I’ll go out on a limb and say hiring will increase around Christmas as well, but a minimum wage retail job is no more cause to celebrate than this news. I’d like to see more jobs that a person can make a living on, not just to get through the winter.

Okay, don’t give me stats, tell me where all these jobs are. I still see a lot of people out of work or under-employed. Minimum wage is not a job.

Okay dislikers, I see none of you had one civil answer to where these jobs are, cowards the lot of you.
Figures lie and liars figure if I remember right?
Also if you think minimum wage is a job your mistaken, stop gap I will give you as you will be in line to receive some type assistance to augment you lack of income. I am not criticizing those on minimum wage, just using those numbers to inflate the job market is wrong. If a job is not a stand alone income you are basically unemployed, even if the system uses the term underemployed.

thanks bob!! its nice to see a conservative admit the minimum wage needs to be raised since as you said its not a real job (since you cant live off that wage)..although im sure you will backtrack on that statement and claim it shouldnt be raised haha

I will stand by what I said it is not a job, but unfortunately raising will do nothing for the recipient as the price raises needed to offset wage being raised will just offset any perceived gain.
Economy’s in local markets dictated minimum pay versus minimum wage. Looking at the Williston area of ND for example. Economy is good, pay is good, economy bad, pay is bad. Economys set by climate like here in Duluth, pay is bad. Tourism is bad for local wage pay climate.
So my point is raise climate, not minimums.

How about a glimpse of a possible Romney presidentcy. Ever hear of Freeport Ill.? Seem there is a factory that has been profitable but Bain is closing the plant and moving to China. 200 people out of a job because of greed. If Romney gets elected maybe your job is next.

Isn’t Illinois one of those low cost, low taxes business states which lure new companies to relocate?
I also heard Reverend Al will be going down to Freeport this next week. Glory be and heaven help them.

bobk, so is what you’re saying you don’t care people lost their jobs or that you think it’s a plot by MSNBC ? Strange good old FOX news hasn’t reported the story. But then again if it makes Romney the robot look bad they won’t.

I always thought Bain was into buying distressed companies, not profitable ones. Seems to me it is likely a key piece of information is being omitted here that skews this headline a bit. Also wondering what role ol Bill Clinton has in this with his hard push to include China in the WTO in the last months of his presidency, despite their unfair trade practices even back then? Would Bain, or others, be running to China if they were held to the standards of other countries in the WTO? Each trillion Obama borrows from China gives us less leverage in negotiating trade issues with them. As much as I hate to admit it, China has waged the only war with the US that the US will lose, without spilling a drop of blood. They are destroying a huge economy better than a million bombs could do. Brilliant. Last thing, I am very glad liberals now have Bain to demonize. The 8+ years of saying, “Halliburton controls everything” was getting a little old.

The company became profitable after Bain bought it because of the auto bailout. The company makes sensors for cars. The average wage at this plant was 17 bucks an hour. Bain got a deal from the Chinese and they also got tax breaks for moving the company. The wages they will be paying in China ARE 90 CENTS an hour. These are the kinds of dealing Romney is involved with.

Oh no……….more bad news as reported in the Tuesday DNT, quick boys throw up the smokescreen!
Unemployment continued to fall in Duluth last month, reaching 5.9 percent, down from 6.6 percent in August.
Most of the Northland also saw declines.
The jobless rate reached 6.2 percent for Northeastern Minnesota, down from 6.7 percent in August. And the greater Twin Ports area, which includes all of St. Louis, Carlton and Douglas counties, dipped to 6.1 percent, also down from 6.7 percent in August.
