BEMIDJI More than a dozen signs supporting the marriage amendment that were hanging outside St. Philip’s Catholic Church were vandalized over the weekend. Continue Reading

Well, this action is based on the premise that voting for the amendment is hateful. It is not – natural marriage is a good for all of society. http://youtu.be/8cQCi4ehXkg

I do not condone vandalism of others property, but I do emphasize with gay Americans, who merely want to enjoy the same freedoms and liberties heteros like I and my wife do.
There has never been one absolute definition of marriage itself, much less “natural marriage”. The definition of marriage has been redefined ever since males quit dragging females to their caves by their hair, or the trading livestock for thirteen-year-old brides virtually eliminated in civil society.
This amendment is based solely on knee-jerk, likely religiously based emotions by ignorant people harboring irrational phobias, and is not U.S. constitutionally valid. This is the same gobbledegook interracial couples faced just a few generations ago. In time, people accept others despite their differences as equals (for the most part) and move on.

If I remember right this country was based on the freedoms and rights given to every man and woman. Isn’t be gay or a lesbian a freedom for people? Last time I checked it was. So why does everyone want to hold these people back from being married? What are they scared of? This is just like back in the 60′s when people were scared of letting blacks have the same rights as whites. Tlak about major flashback.
Let them be able to get married and enjoy their lives together. I don’t what way you vote, but to destroy someone else’s property is not the way to do it.
And since when does it say that christianity is the sole religion in America? If people want to throw that the bible says it’s not right, then lets talk about other things in the bible that are wrong that we turn a blind eye to.
Lets see there’s
1) Living with your spouse before marriage
2) Having sex before marriage
3) drinking to get drunk
4) getting divorced
I could go on if needed.

I believe in trying, albeit with human flaws, to live by God’s overall message to us, to love one another as he loves us. My experience is that we can prove or disprove just about any topic if we pick the right passages from various places in the Bible and especially when we make effort to make those verses fit the context of our personal agenda. People seem to neglect to consider the ancient vs. modern context of God’s message. We no longer misuse the Bible to discriminate based on race, we no longer misuse it to discriminate based on gender, and hopefully in the very near future we will not misuse it to continue to discriminate based on sexual orientation. When this misuse stops, we will be a step closer in truly living according to God’s plan. I believe that one day, the coming generations will look back on how same sex couples were treated just as we look back on slavery or women’s suffrage and ask us “Why was this actually an issue?” Isn’t it about time that we are all seen as equal human beings with equal opportunities in the pursuit of happiness? Let’s truly get rid of discrimination and racism in this country once and for all! No more “gender” or “race” checkboxes on forms, no more privileges granted or taken away based soley on any discriminatory factors – INCLUDING sexual orientation! Let’s be united Minnesota! At this time, we are in a position to vote whether a permanent change should be made to our State Constitution or if there is need for further discussion. Voting NO simply means that nothing will change right now. Marriage equality will not be achieved and the laws will not change as a result of a NO vote on this amendment. It simply will allow more time for everyone to become educated on the real facts before making such a permanent decision for us and future generations. I pray that anyone who has even the slightest shred of uncertainty will vote “no” on the marriage amendment next month.

And, I should have stated that obviously there is no excuse to vandalize anyone’s property. It is unfortunate that people do these things as it actually hurts the cause. Be respectful everyone – aren’t we debating freedom right now? Destroying other people’s property is interferring with their freedom.

I don’t fully understand the amendment. The push is to define marriage by a yes vote as between a man and a woman and the reason for that is so the voters establish what marriage is and between whom, is that correct? A no vote will allow activist judges to rule on the matter when they see fit. Is that correct? Right now we have those in a committed gay relationship wanting to marry. And as I understand it, a no vote will allow (in the future) such things to be ruled on as they occur such as a man wanting to marry his daughter, a daughter wanting to marry her cousin, three people in a love triangle wanting to marry, a sister and a brother, a mother and son, and who knows what else will come in the future. I mean who says that only gay and straight people should be able to marry? Wouldn’t it, couldn’t it be said that we are also discriminating against other loving couples or more than a couple by limiting their freedom to marry? Are we not losing our freedom on what marriage is, by allowing a judge to determine what marriage is about when we vote no?
