Doing “OK” in the debate was all to do with the perception of dominance. In general, Mitt has a history of gaffes, and he also is pretty much guaranteed to tell you what he thinks you want to hear. Never mind getting obsessed with who smirked at whom — focus on what was true (or at least less distorted!), and what the candidates stand for.
Biden may have embellished some points, but basically he does not egregiously lie and distort. When he gaffes it is because he wears his heart on his sleeve. He does seem to have some genuine concern for the COTUS and for the American people in general — whether he comes over as a bit of a buffoon or not!
Ryan, in contrast, is enamored with the makers versus takers bs of Ayn Rand — he thinks altruism equals communism. He also is clearly more beholden to Grover Norquist and the Vatican than to the COTUS he swore to uphold.
His comments on religious freedom are simply parroted doctrine from the US Council of Catholic Bishops and as such, are untrue. His only defense against dishonesty on this topic is incompetence — that he doesn’t understand the 1st amendment.
Women should be horrified — Ryan sees you as the equivalent of farmyard breeding stock when it comes to your reproductive rights.
The two tickets’ view of US government? It’s plutocratic/theocratic control with a trust-us-we’ll-be-compassionate cheap promise versus at least some semblance of acknowledgement that the US is a secular democratic republic.
If Colin Powell was the republican candidate I’d probably vote for him. Unfortunately, he’s way too honest to even think about associating with today’s republicans.

Over the top Capt? How would you construe wanting to prevent women from getting pregnant, and then making abortion illegal if they unwillingly did so?
As for Ryan and altruism – consider the US Conference of Catholic Bishops’ view of Ryan – he’s the golden boy on reproductive issues but highly criticized for his attitude to poor people. Coming from a group that thinks suffering is good for the soul, I’d say that my comments may have been understated!

BTW, to put my comments about the Catholic Bishops into context, people should realize that they are so radical that the majority of US Catholics don’t agree with them (the majority actually favor Obama).

The debates the way they are done are pure showmanship from the get go and really don’t provide much to change anybody’s mind who has actually paid enough attention to form an opinion before the debate. Until they have debates without pre chosen questions that actually come from people in a town hall setting….They’re bascially just another advertising scheme for both sides.
Wouldn’t you like to see candidates have to answer and debate questions that come out of left field for once instead of the crap they’ve been packaging for the public? All of these questions are what “They” want to focus on……..Is it any wonder that we never really know what their plans are for many of the other questions we might have? Like….What ever happend tomaking it more difficult for Wall Street to continue to play this speculation game that does nothing but continue to raise the price of fuel and cause massive inflation? What do you plan to do about that? On all levels of candidates not just presidential. We need to really do something to hold their feet to the fire on some of this stuff. These softball questions do nothing…
