Minnesota Supreme Court denies Fosle’s bid to get on the ballot
October 10, 2012 at 12:00 pm in Duluth News Tribune
The Minnesota Supreme Court today denied Jay Fosle’s request to be listed on the ballot and clarified an earlier ruling ordering Erik Simonson’s name to be on the ballot as the DFL Party candidate. Continue Reading

The article got it wrong. Fosle is backed by a party, the PARTY OF COMMON SENSE!

Oh, I like that thick BOLD type. Makes the comment seem that much more enticing. Let me give it a try – In these trying times Jay Fosle was hand chosen by [bold] GOD HIMSELF! [end bold]

This whole thing seems pretty crooked to me. We still have not learned the reasons for the supreme courts decision to override State law putting Simonsons name on the ballot. That information is supposed to come ‘later’ as well. I do not live in that part of Duluth, but sincerely hope they are intelligent voters and do not allow this tactic to be successful. I have a feeling that if this scandal involved a Republican or Independent, this case would not have been even considered.

This is particularly curious. How can the SC rule one way for one candidate and the other way for another candidate when their requests were equal in nature?

Well, they weren’t exactly equal in nature. Fosle could have filed as a candidate in time to be on the ballot if he had chosen to but, he didn’t.
Simonson obviously wouldn’t have filed because there was already an endorsed DFL candidate in the running.
Fosle couldn’t be considered a ‘replacement’ for Gauthier cuz…his politics aren’t anywhere near liberal/DFL.
The people of that district would have ended up with only a choice between a conservative and a conservative.
If there had been a good reason for Fosle to have filed late, I’d definitely support having his name added as well though.
I’d love to see us break out of this dang 2 party system.
Hot debate. What do you think?

The width and breadth of the conspiracy bound to protect status quo of our two party system is pretty amazing. Time for change.

“Chief Justice Lori S. Gildea wrote the order, and said the reasoning behind the decision will come later.”
Yes it will. As soon as they can think of something.

I’m disappointed in both this and the earlier Erik Simonson ruling. Not only has the state Supreme Court said that existing laws regarding the ballot don’t matter, they now have created separate rules based on party affiliation. Judicial races don’t get a lot of attention, but I found out that Dan Griffith is the candidate running against Chief Justice Lori Gildea in November…after these two rulings Dan Griffith has my vote!

I do have an idea. I have visited his website and his Facebook page, and I did so a few years back when he was running for a seat on the state Supreme Court. While I don’t agree with him 100%, he’s certainly far closer to what I’m looking for than his opponent is.

If Fosle wants to be a serious candidate why doesn’t he participate in any forums?

We had the same concern so emailed him, this is his reply.
“Thank you for the e-mail, I have a previous engagement that was planned long before the League of woman voter’s decided to have this forum and I cannot back out of this commitment. If you have personal questions for me please feel free to either e-mail me them or call me and I will return your call as soon as possible.” He did include his phone number.

Well, therein lies the answer. The League of Liberal Women Voter’s sole purpose is to shoot down any candidate that has an extra organ between their legs and a brain in their mellon. From my experience I’ve tried answering their questions in a written questionaire, which seemed painstakenly impossible, so I deposited it in my circular file. Their questions are designed to make you look like an oger if in any way you don’t agree with their beliefs, I can’t even imagine what it would be like to get caught on stage having to go through a hour of that nonsense. Thumbs up on Jay’s decision to skip town on that one.

I just received this email from Mr Fosle.
“I saw your post on the DNT today…I got out of my prior engagement late last week and let the League know I could make it.
I will be at the Park Point forum tonight @ 7:00 and will also be at the Morgan Park event on the 16th.
Jay Fosle”

Secretary of State Mark Ritchie testified in the appeal case and said Fosle was not on the same legal ground as Simonson. I think I see a conflict of “Parties”.
Matter is I will be voting for Mr Fosle, the man with a soul..!!

I have no faith in the American system of law. It appears random and arbitrary to me. Whoever can hire the best lawyer wins.

Fosle’s name should not have been put on the ballot, but neither should have Simonson’s. Vote Tim Tinglestead and Dan Griffin if you want to see a change on the court. I know the incumbents always win the supreme court races, but the challengers will have my vote.

Question – do people think Simonson will win? The democrats have such a strong hold in Duluth that you’d have to guess that whomever the Democrats put on the ballot will win. However, if a Democrat were to lose this race it would be this one.
I personally will be voting for Silver’s on this one. Fosle is a good guy, but an independent will have no pull in St. Paul. Silvers will more than likely be part of the majority party and will have much more pull for our district than an independent would.

Claire, I don’t appreciate you trying to characterize my post as a reference to some stereotype. I have a lot of friends out West, and most feel more strongly about it than I. Think before you post next time.

I’d like to see Kerry Gauthier get back in the race as a write-in to make it interesting. I mean come on here people. The guy really didn’t do anything wrong. But Play in the Democrat party is fully acceptable – it’s in the party platform language for crying out loud. The guy dedicates his whole life to politics and just because the local media digs up a non-story he has to spend his whole life thinking what if.

I admire Travis Silvers’ approach to this election campaign. He enters the race with no real expectation of winning, does practically no campaigning at all, and yet could actually win! Go Travis!
