The author of this article is either clueless or flat out spinning a lie. There is no way that illegal, mass and chain immigration has been a financial plus for the people of your community. Some businesses that exploit these people profit, but the citizen taxpayer is devastated by this illegal and unethical immigration. Some “budget cuts for cities and school districts” would probably be a blessing in disguise. The citizens would receive a much better education for way less tax dollars. Some 80% of these people are on taxpayer assistance. I can’t believe this author would even spin this article. I think the citizens know better by now. No one wants to return to the 50s. A couple decades would be nice though, much better times then. I would like to see our boarders secured for a number of reasons like national security and Sovereignty. I don’t like paying for the other half of the cost of some businesses labor force. The biggest problem with this whole scenario is that it was\is illegal. I’d like to see our laws enforced. To this day the vast majority of the people that came here to take those jobs, that the citizens were forced to move out of, came here illegally at some point! I hope that people like this author can get past the racist part and see the problem (cost) this is for this country at a time when we can least afford it!

Here is one google example I came across quickly, “In Texas, 54 percent of legal immigrants and 70 percent of illegal immigrants receive welfare assistance, with illegal immigrants generally receiving benefits on behalf of their U.S.-born children,” there are tons of examples ranging for about 50% to 80% depending on the area you search for. The point is the number is ridiculously high! You can see that here by taking a trip to the family services office. They have foreigners handing out money to foreigners! I thought they came here to work, not to draw welfare. I guess this is our domestic foreign aid program. Just how long do you think the taxpayer can sustain this foolishness? This is basically the other half of the cost of a labor force I’m talking about, plus the cost of education, law enforcement, incarceration, medical care, and on and on it goes. No non-citizen should be receiving any kind of taxpayer money! That’s not the way this country was built!

I agree with most of what you say deano but I put the blame MORE on the shoulders of our Government, than I do the immigrants.Our border needs to be secured better and MY school of thought is; If I were in the financial situation they are down there, I would probably do the same thing to make a better life for my family. Although I would work for my gains and not sit at the public feeding trough.

I blame big business for starting (enabling) it, the government for allowing it, and the people themselves for doing it, in that order. No matter the blame or the circumstances it’s all wrong!

I agree wholeheartedly with the author of this article.
In the case of Worthington, Minorities have opened businesses, created jobs and contributed greatly to the local economy. I’d go as far to say that if it wasn’t for minorities, Worthington would have shuttered downtown and the population would of moved onto greener pastures for work.
With the exception of a few, especially the older, more crotchety crowd who will probably never embrace change and open every conversation with some racist remark about our community, I’ve seen more and more acceptance.
Worthington is a wonderful place to live and raise a family that is clean and safe. It’s just small enough to be considered a small town and just large enough to have some amenities for shopping and eating.
