Letter: Romney, Ryan would bring real change
October 9, 2012 at 7:00 pm in Worthington Daily Globe
As a very important election approaches, we need to ask ourselves these questions. Where are we? How did we get here? Is our present course wise, responsible and sustainable? We need to look at this unselfishly, not as a special-interest group (seniors, labor, farmers, etc.). This has been a land of opportunity and still the best place on earth to live, and we need to preserve it for following generations. Continue Reading

“Mitt Romney has proven he can run successful businesses and knows how to manage money.” and yet we still don’t know the math on how he would cut 20% taxes across the board without creating more deficit. Add the planned increase in defense in his plan, there is no plausable or mathematical way to reduce the deficit. Removal of the PBS funding (only cut we have heard him say yet) cuts 1/100th of 1% of the budget.

Obama plus $6 trillion in deficit spending equals “hope and change”.How’s that math working out for you?

Obama has lowered the deficit.
Bush Sr., Bush Jr. and Reagan all raised it.
Myth Romney will blow up the deficit again, just like his Republican predecessors.

(a) the deficit is now much smaller than it was when Obama took office
(b) this is the smallest deficit we’ve seen in four years
(c) this new figure represents an improvement of over $200 billion since last year
(d) the main drivers of the remaining deficit are Republican policies.

Yup, it’s all the republicans fault even though Obama has been running the show for almost four pitiful years. If Obama is ever successful at anything are George Bush and the republicans going to get credit for that too?

The last 3 Republican presidents raised the deficit and the last 3 Democrats lowered the deficit.
These are facts.

More facts that mean nothing to the right. Facts matter to the rest of us.
Spending, taxes and the deficit are all lower today than when President Obama took office.
Romney’s campaign has promised to return to the same failed policies as the Bush administration.

And after nearly four years of adding to the deficit, etc., what is Obamas plausible plan to save the future of our kids and grand kids? I haven’t heard a thing from him on that either. He has done nothing for unemployment, (unless you include that laughable ploy they tried last week with fudging the numbers again,) the GDP has dropped to an embarrassing rate, our countries credit rating has dropped. I for one, think it’s time to try a different path. The one we’re on is heading south, when we need to go north.

“He has done nothing for unemployment, (unless you include that laughable ploy they tried last week with fudging the numbers again,)”…The unemployment was dropping steadily over the last year. Suddenly you think a .3% drop was “fudging the numbers”? Why not make it below 6% if you really want to cook the books? Also if he hasn’t done anything for unemployment, how does 31 months of private sector job growth sound.

Heres what tells how bad things really were when he took office. I like graph 3 for GDP. Notice that dip during 07-09. Now notice what happens after 09…that would be a growth of GDP. You can say Obama hasn’t done anything, but the numbers don’t lie. Growth has occured since the worst recession since the depression.
We don’t need to go backwards to the idea that increases in defense spending, even lower tax rates (lower than the historic lows we have now), and trickle down cuts for the rich will work. What history has shown…it doesn’t.

Merc – I admire your desire to educate, by providing clear-cut facts. I fear you’re wasting your time, however, responding since facts mean little to some people. They’re quick to change the subject away from the content of the article (since they can provide no defense for Romney and no counter-argument to your statement).
The “anybody but Obama” voters are taking their cues from the likes of Limbaugh and Hannity. It was, Limbaugh after all who first accused the Labor Department of “cooking the books” and it spread like wildfire. (Thanks, ellamay for parroting it as ‘gospel’.) Hannity, from his bully pulpit, accuses Obama of being the “worst President ever.. in the history of this country.” That, in itself, is laughable and enough reason to never watch Fox News. They have no sense of reality – or history.
Let’s hear more about Romney’s clear, detailed and concise plans for how to move this country forward.

“Let’s hear more about Romney’s clear, detailed and concise plans for how to move this country forward”— You haven’t told us what obamas plausible plan for the future is. You folks never answer, you just attempt to deflect. There may have 31 months of job growth, (Bush had 52) what is the NET job growth under obama? And, with a little research, you will find that there was ZERO job growth in August 2011. Unemployment claims have far out paced the dismal job growth numbers.

All’s you seem to have is your accusing others of watching or listening to “opinion” commentators that they don’t. But, I’ve come to expect that. When all’s you do is listen and watch the liberal spin stations, you can’t be expected to be too informaed on everything that’s going on. I’m sure you even bit on the medias and administrations lies that the Benghazi attack was about a video trailer.

Your evidence for your arguement (Obama and the BLS was “fudging the numbers”) is a site that sells pro-Romney gear and anti-obama gear? Also anything with the phrase “wake up” (as the site is named) is a clue that they have manipulated anything to fit their political stance.
The article actually manipulates a CBS story that has the BLS saying “theres no conspiracy”. Which there isn’t….only in your mind there is. But in the real world, the BLS didn’t change the number to benifit anyone. The rate was dropping for the whole year.

Adding Benghazi isn’t on topic. Your use of Duane Gish debate tactics (google it sometime) is very similar to Romney during the debates, yet accomplishes nothing. I will gladly give you Obamas plan for the economy, once you can tell me the math that Romney will use to give a 20% across the board tax cut while not creating more of a deficit. Specifically, which cuts will be made to of set the tax cuts.

“Adding Benghazi isn’t on topic. “— Sorry. It absolutely IS on topic. The topic is, ” Romney / Ryan would bring real change.” A nice break from all the lies and deception from the current administration on nearly EVERYTHING coming from them. We first find out that the book obama wrote is mostly made up garbage to make himself sound great, to the lying about Benghazi, lying about the real cost of health care, lying about Fast and Furious, and on and on and on. This guy wouldn’t know the truth if it hit him in the face! So, YES, it is very much on topic (maybe not the topic YOU want hear though.) REAL change, NOT hope and change, which obviously hasn’t worked out.

“is very similar to Romney during the debates, yet accomplishes nothing.”— Accomplished nothing? ROFLMFAO, he accomplished his mission in making obama look like the bumbling idiot he really is without his crutch (telepromptor.) Tell me PLEASE! WHAT is better now than it was 4 years ago? Where has the unemployment and economy been improved? Where has our future generations seen improvement in what THEY will owe the Government, just by being born? Argue on his record, NOT his political affiliation!

“Tell me PLEASE! WHAT is better now than it was 4 years ago? Where has the unemployment and economy been improved?”. Regardless who won in 08, the recession was starting. ANYONE would have a horrible economy to correct.
The unemployment has lowered since he inherited the worst recession since the great depression. Its actually lower than when he took office. You keep ignoring that fact. He has created more jobs that the last president. Bush had a loss of .33% private sector jobs in his 8 years. Obama thus far has had a gain of .97% private sector jobs and GROWING.
http://data.bls.gov/cgi-bin/surveymost?bls
Also the stock market higher since he took office. Dow Jones was 8279.63 at open on Jan 20, 2009. Today its at 13326. A 60.9% increase. You also will ignore that fact.
Future generations won’t have to worry about not getting insurance due to pre-existing coverage due to the affordable care act. Coverage will extend to them while college age. Also state matching funds to increase funding for low income children on Medicaid.Children are better off with this one law. More facts you will discredit.
Thats his record. Numbers. Laws passed. Facts. Still alllllll ears for that Romney math and plan. Let alone hear how exactly it would improve the economy more.

“Future generations won’t have to worry about not getting insurance due to pre-existing coverage due to the affordable care act. Coverage will extend to them while college age.”—- At what cost to them? Every child born today already owes the Government any where from $30,000 to $43,000. A fact you’ll discredit. College age children always could stay on their parents insurance, up to the age of 23! A fact you’ll discredit. What about the “public sctor” employment?” Public sector employment is now down 608,000 workers since January 2009, a 2.7 percent decline. At the same point in President Bush’s term, public sector employment was up 3.7 percent.” You paint a rosy picture. What’s your thoughts on Solyndra? Benghazi? Evergreen Solar? Delphi? Fast & Furious? Soooooo, many failures and huge amounts of wasted revenue. Cost of obamacare over $1.76 Trillion. (he initially lied about the cost, and still does) Insurance savings of $2500. per family when it actually went up $3500 more. (he lied again) “You can keep your insurance if you like it.” (another lie) they made it so companies will get by cheaper by dropping you. We need someone who can tell the truth, and stop all the free money give aways to their pals. We can’t afford another four years of this administrations nonsense!

Still waiting on that Romney plan (other than lies), ellamay. You can rail on Obama all day, but you can’t show any real difference, let alone plan, for Romney. Please enlighten everyone on how Romeny has stated he will cut 20% taxes across the board, yet won’t add to the deficit. Particular cuts he would make other than PBS (1/100 of 1% of our budget).

We already know what the Obama plan is. It’s four more years of $ trillion deficits and the continued decline of the United States. From the point of view of the left,”What’s not to like about that.”
