Cravaack-Nolan debate draws on differences
October 9, 2012 at 7:00 pm in Duluth News Tribune
Rep. Chip Cravaack and challenger Rick Nolan wasted little time in drawing distinctions between themselves on big issues such as Medicare and the economy during a lively debate Tuesday morning at the Duluth Playhouse.

Nolan reminds me of a dear old uncle who’s time has clearly past. He offers no solutions for anything other than a romantic notion of “rolling up our sleeves and getting to work”. Sorry Rick, that’s just not good enough.

Tell that to the late Ronald Reagan, whose economic policies created over 12 million new jobs, a movement of people up the economic ladder, and which lasted for over a decade. We have seen the opposite view up close under Obama–how’s it working out for you?

You are right on one thing, politicians don’t create jobs. But they can stand in the way of them. Should it take 9 years to even see a glimmer of hope that a mining operation can get it’s feet off the ground? No, that is ridiculous. Can regulations cause the price of lumber to be too high in lumber rich MN, making their product inaccessable to buyers in favor of foreign lumber from Canada and elsewhere? Yes they can.
There was one thing that Mr Nolan made clear, he does not want less regulation, he wants more. And he thinks the more you have, the more jobs in the Govt sector will be created. On that he is only partially right, but at the cost of jobs in the Northland.

Life as a victim of those evil corporations must be pretty easy. You don’t need to account for your actions, because you’ve been victimized. There’s no need to strive for self improvement because those evil corporations control everything. Claiming to be an impotent victim might suit you, but a majority of us, 53%?? actually enjoy having a say in our future.
If politicians aren’t responsible for creating jobs, why was Obama given a pass on h is stimulus plan? Never mind that he didn’t create the jobs he took credit for creating. Politicians do play a huge role in determining policy, policy that helps create, or destroy jobs. Nolan has a record of supporting regulations that kill private sector jobs while favoring public sector bureaucratic jobs. And since those jobs don’t produce wealth, they, by definition, consume wealth via taxes. If we are ever to get control of this runaway national debt, it will be through the creation of PRIVATE sector jobs.

I am really suprised by the lack of comments on both articles about the debate between Congressman Cravaack and Mr Nolan. I think there is little excitement in kicking out Cravaack, who has held 29 town halls, 17 tele-town halls, and been to a plethora of other parades and local events to talk to his constituents. There is also little excitement over Mr Nolan and his “The EPA creates jobs!!” (oh, really?) meme.
Mr Nolan is simply in this race because he would again like the title of “Congressman” and the grandeur he thinks it will give him. His big Govt vision is purely Obamanemic in it’s belief in unlimited spending and taxation. We’ve heard it all before, and after four years of it and $6 Trillion in new debt via Obama, most see it as suicidal, and they are right.
Goodbye Mr Nolan, we wish you no ill, but retire peacefully and have a good life.

Why would the voters throw out one senile inept congressman only to replace him in a couple of years with another senile inept congressman? We finally have an effective ambitious honest person representing us and I would hope the electorate will realize that fact.

I attended all three debates and watched the one on KSTP At Issue with Tom Hauser. Chip just got better and better, and if you watched Nolan’s body language at the final debate his hand wringing alone displayed his own belief he was in a losing battle.
