Thank you St Louis County Board for waisting my tax money debating and voting on an issue you have no power over. And as for the members that raised the issue, I truly hope the people you represent remember this waste of time and money when you run for re election. I would imagine there is a good number same sex supporters that would affect the vote out come.

Isn’t it really the right wing legislature that is wasting $millions trying to push their anti-gay agenda on our constitution?

I’m voting no, but I think it’s a colossal waste of time for county boards, city councils, etc. to let us know how they personally feel. It’s disappointing.

I want to marry my brother, but there are laws against marrying a sibling. We should change that law, too. And what if I want to marry my (adult) daughter? When will my brother and I be able to welcome her into the fold?

The last thing I want to know is how the St Louis County Board will personally vote on this constitutional ammendment. I do think it is important for their constituents to remember that this board felt compelled to vote on this, and throw the scoundrels out of office come election time!

Totally inappropriate use of their time. Itcomes acorss as speaking for the citizens of the county, and it does not speak for all. So no reason to makesuch a statement.

I don’t like the gay agenda, and I don’t like the board promoting gay marriage either. They don’t speak for me or the majority of their constituents. It is bad enough that the DNT keeps stirring the pot to try and make the vocal minority seem like this is a sound moral decision.

Marriage is between one man and one woman, period. Any other union, partnership, whatever, can be called something else. I am not homophobic, and in fact, have some gay friends. But a Marriage is sacred and God intended it to be for procreation, thus one man, one woman.

The question on the November ballot will be a Constitutional Amendment, and it will have absolutely no effect on St Louis County one way or another. Therefore, the St Louis County Board has no business voting on it. If certain Board members feel the overwhelming need to display leadership here’s a novel concept: stick to actual county-related business.

Jayson, thanks for your concern in my house. F.Y.I. I’m happily married. How about we let the voters decide, which is the way it should be. Your mockery of what marriage is and your opinion of overpopulation, have zero bearing on my beliefs. I guess my vote will offset yours.

It’s interesting how the gay lobby feels free to characterize those committed to living by a moral code as bigoted and homophobic. Who’s the intolerant one here? The guy who believes God when He calls homosexual behavior a sin, or the hedonist who demands that others abandon their moral code and recognize his deviant behavior?

Jayson,
I think you are a troubled person and should seek counseling. No one has pushed any religious beliefs on you. When someone says “let the voters decide” I don’t understand how that is biggoted or pushing religion on you. That’s cool to have your own opinion and beliefs. The fact is, however, the majority of people don’t agree with you. Simple as that. Re-think your takes or don’t write in and your message won’t be hidden due to low rating.

Quite the contrary. In all of history, marriage has NEVER meant anything but a union between members of the opposite sex. Now, we are given the right to keep that definition. It has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with abiding by the will of the people. The people choose the rules by which members of society must conduct themselves. Not a 5% minority of deviants.

Women shouldn’t be allowed to vote, blacks, and mixed race marriages…after all the select Majority at the time didn’t want it…so based on your archaic viewpoint if the majority rules rights of others are trumped? That’s not the basis for the founding of our nation…or the landing of the pilgrims (that incidentally slaughtered the Indians as well).

Yes, when a bigoted minority write the laws, this is what you get. Now, when the people themselves are asked what the law should be, you would defer to a bigoted minority (the gay lobby) to dictate the definition of marriage????? Me thinks thou to be confused.

Where on Earth do you people come from? Why should a smaller upstart group of people think that their rights are being taken away from them….because same-gender marriage is not legalized? In Minnesota, it is already against the law for same-sex people to marry…..this ammendment only solidify’s that law……otherwise that same upstart minority group will nickel and dime this to death….and eventually have it their way……which is morally wrong! This country….if it continues on this same path…..is going to morally bankrupt our country…..and believe me….we are well on the way ….as it is!

The headline reads St Louis county board votes to oppose……. When it should have read “4 St Louis County Board members vote to oppose…” 4 leftist board member hardly represent the whole of St Louis County! Vote them out! When allowed to vote on the issue, EVERY state has voted to recognize marriage as between one man and one woman, by an average of nearly 60%. The gay lobby recognizes this and knows that their only hope is to keep this law from becoming part of our constitution. They are shopping for sympathetic judges as we speak. VOTE “YES” on the amendment!

The people should decide what the definition of marriage is. Not some bought and paid for state judge.

The people of Alabama decided marriage could not be between races not long ago. Letting the majority decide about minority constitutional rights is not a good idea.

The people didn’t decide, politicians decided, and when the people had their say, the laws were overturned. When the people of Minnesota vote to reaffirm the traditional definition of marriage, are you going to advocate that a judge over rule the will of people?

Hugh…..I agree! The mere thought of a ammendment vote…..directly by the people that reside here….vote yes to the ammendment…..then, a lefty or minority group takes it to court…..then the court decides in their favor……that the ammendment is unconstitutional ( oh brother )….makes me cringe! What on Earth have people evolved into? The thought of a judge deciding that the will of the people….via a vote…..is wrong? This ammendment will pass ( thankfully )….and unfortunately, on the down side…..it will be challenged in court by the leftists and minorities! What is this country coming to? Help us all!

This is EXACTLY why the left fears ratification of this amendment. Because they are already lining up liberal judges to hear a constitutional challenge to the law. Their problem is that we’ve beaten them to the punch. The courts can’t by definition find the constitution unconstitutional. OK, well, maybe a liberal judge could(head spinning), but any reasonable judge would see that s/he is bound by the very document s/he is trying.

Your religious intolerance is misdirected. Those traits you find so distasteful are not characteristics of God, but of human behavior. Therefore I suggest you stop tilting at windmills (God) and redirect your animosity where it belongs, to the beings that caused this whole mess in the first place, PEOPLE! If you are unhappy with your lot in life, It’s not God’s fault . He’s provided you with everything you need. If you are unhappy, look in the mirror for someone to blame.

I understand why people like Hugh are voting Yes to the marriage amendment. Hugh hates gay people, thinks they are deviants, and wants to make their lives as miserable as possible. That’s a logical reason to deny marriage rights to homosexuals.
But I don’t understand why people like Youngs79, who claim to not be homophobic, and to have gay friends would support such an amendment. How do you not see that this is motivated by hate and bigotry?
Jesus is very clearly against divorce, yet nobody is proposing an amendment to ban that. No government official is telling the Catholic Church that they have to start allowing divorced people to be married under their roof.
If your wife was very sick, and you couldn’t stay with her at the hospital because the government didn’t recognize your marriage, wouldn’t you feel that your rights were being infringed upon? Do you really think it makes God happy that homosexuals are treated that way?

Vune, I’ll spot you 50% on that one. Yes, I think that the behavior, by definition, is deviant. But no, I most certainly do not hate them, or anyone else. How easily you dismiss those who hold an opposing view as hateful, eh? Whose the real bigot here? For the record, there are more GLBT members of my family than statistics would predict. Sibling, cousin, nieces/nephews. Should they be denied a relationship of their choosing? No. But they shouldn’t be allowed to determine what the legal definition of marriage is. This is not a civil rights thing, it’s a definition thing, and it is the people who get the last word on the legal definition of marriage.

I don’t see anyone out there advocating or apologizing for divorce. I’m going to assume that you are too young to remember the political battle that surrounded Minnesota adopting a “no-fault” divorce law, but it certainly WAS a rancorous debate. Unfortunately, it still passed, and we have learned to live with it. Are you willing to live with the Marriage amendment once it passes?

If it passes, I’ll “live with it” for as long as I have to. But I’ll certainly never stop trying to get it repealed. I have friends & family who are gay, and I care about them. I think they should have the right to marry who they want to, just like I have.
This amendment will hurt people I love. Allowing homosexuals to marry will not hurt anyone.
Has the No-Fault divorce law had a negative affect on your life?
