Sen. John Hoeven, R-N.D., column: Bill ensures energy growth, good stewardship

It’s hard to put partisan politics aside on this important issue. This legislation might be more important than anything coming out of Washington and not just for North Dakota. Every natural gas customer in the country is dependant on common sense control. Allowing some local control could insure natural gas continuing to be delivered to your house at an equivalent cost of about 2 cents per KWH of electricity. That’s less than the federal subsidy for wind power. This is the single most important reason that I’m voting Republicans into office this year.

When the frackers are required to carry insurance against ecological damage, I’ll pay attention.
Until such time, I have every expectation that the Frackers are going to do untold damage…and leave the state before they can be held accountable. The taxpayer will end up paying for the “remediation”.

That’s ridiculous, but President Obama agrees with you, more or less. He actually touted solar energy last night while Mr. Romney promoted coal. North and South Pole. Solar energy has a return on investment probably 10 times worse than wind energy and wind is four or five times more expensive than natural gas delivered to your city.
