In cordial fashion, U.S. House candidates Kevin Cramer and Pam Gulleson sounded off on health care, the farm bill and partisan gridlock in a debate here Tuesday. Continue Reading

Hmmm. The Republicans held all the cards from 2001-2006 and did nothing either (other than pass NCLB and a 1 billion dollar unfunded Medicare program. Anyone else remember back that far? As to the farm bill, the Senate passed their version and the House did not. Who controlled which chamber?

Cramer sounds like a walking talking Republican talking point. Does he think an original thought?

Evidently not. Take tort reform that he mentions, evidently he is clueless that almost all states have already done it and payouts do not represent a major healthcare cost.
In North Dakota for instance total payouts amount to about $100/practicing doctor/month. How much could you save on $1200 a year per doctor? Not much. And note that that would be putting the total cost onto doctors, there are also nurses, PA’s, hospitals, clinics and so on who also pay malpractice. So there is almost nothing to save with more tort reform, if costs are higher there may be an insurance company problem, but there certainly isn’t a tort problem concerning costs.
Now if we wanted to do real tort reform, that would mean limiting the liability for all the rest of us, but you can bet Cramer doesn’t mean that.
So yeah, sounds Republican trying to slide in as a Republican. Wonder why being a PSC Commissioner is such a hateful job that he tries all the time to do something else. Doesn’t look that bad to me.

Pam Gulleson won this debate hands down. Cramer was unfocused and wandered in his replies. Pam was firm and consistent. She was clear about being a moderate in Congress. I think the NRA endorsement she got will help her as well. If we elect Cramer, we deserve what we get.
