This is happening all over the coutry right now.
The US Postal Service is being run into the ground by:
1) Postal management. (Why are there Postal Executives being paid more money than the Secretary of Defense? is a good example.
2) The inability of Congress to fix their 2006 legislation that has messed up the Postal Service in the first place.
Some infrastructure should be publicly owned and some privately owned.
When UPS and FEDEX take over all mail delivery in this country, then they will charge what THEY want. No more .45 cent letters.
The Common Good has been run over by greed.
