State to revoke Duluth methadone clinic’s license
September 24, 2012 at 9:09 am in Duluth News Tribune
The state is revoking the license for Duluth’s methadone clinic following what it said were numerous chronic and serious violations of state and federal laws, according to an order issued today. Continue Reading

All I can say is “Hurray!!!!!! It is about time!!!!!!” I have worked with people that are getting supposed “Treatment” with methodone – and it is a complete excuse to keep using legally! Wake up! They need to get sober – completely sober – and that is the only way to recover, period.
Hip Hip Hurray for us tax-payers! We finally win one!

After reading the DNT’s recent expose that outlined just how rampant and blatant the abuse was at this clinic, shutting it down is the logical decision. When the only defense the clinic operators could come up with was “but if we don’t provide methadone for them here, they will steal to use other drugs on the street”, that tells us this clinic was not in the business of helping anyone kick their habit or become sober.

This exact same argunent was played out 30 years ago. Conservative arguments lost out. Everything conservatives said would happen happened.

so lets see if they start preparing their “clients” with alternatives before the doors close. then we’ll really know if they are ONLY there for profit.

This a great thing for our community. This was not helping people, but a huge moneymaker for legalized drug dealers. Anyone on methadone should immediately begin a tapering process. It is also common knowlege in the medical field that methadone users will go to their doctor claiming anxiety and get prescribed Klonopin. Mixing the two, causes a heroin-type feeling, and is largely free for those with State-sponsored insurance. Either pill fetches high prices on the street. This will likely not change anything, as they will now likely qualify for insurance reimbursement for medical transport to St. Cloud to get their “fix”. The only ones who are worried about it now are the ones who buy it illegally. We may unfortunately read more about heroin overdoses in the short term as the street buyers look for something else, but this will subside in short order. Bottom line is, methadone provides no net benefit for any community

Bravo! And a government entity doing it’s job for once! Hopefully they won’t remain open on appeal and just have to jump through a few hoops to keep running. Now, move on to kicking the losers off welfare and we’ll be saving some real money!

I’ve been reading quite a bit about this lately and the one thing I’ve never been able to figure out is…..why the availability of ‘take home’ doses when they know the stuff is being misused and sold.

I’m not sure what to make of this, but I’ve heard that now since this clinic is under investigation, people are getting cab rides – round trip & daily – to get their methodone from Brainerd or Bemidji, paid for by the state of MN. So, round trip, that’s got to be an 8 hour journey to get out there, provide ID and sign for your dosage, get back to Duluth, go to bed, wake up, start the state sponsored journey to the god-awful middle of nowhere towns of northwestern Minnesota and repeat. Nuts.

I don’t want to pay a plug nickle for someone else’s addiction. What next….do we cover the cost of weight watchers for the obese? I mean really…they are just as entitled as drug addicts.
