DNT….question for you. If a voter declines to vote on this question on the ballot…..it ( apparently ) is counted as a “no” vote. Can you find out why this is? If a voter chooses ( or forgets ) to answer this question…..this question should NOT be counted either way! If the State counts a blank answer as a “no” vote……that is almost the same as “ballot box stuffing”…..and gives a false “actual vote total”….hence, influencing the vote total! If a voter chooses to NOT answer a question……such as a vote for a U.S. Senator…..is that ballot totally rejected….or just not counted either way, for the Senate seat? Should be handled the same way…..that particular vote should not be counted…..for that particular question……on that particular ballot! Can you find out the answer to this question…..please, do not disregard…..as I assume you will! This should not take much time or “exhaustive digging”. Thank You!

Vern, There was an article I believe in National News on these ballot questions. The attorneys for the groups that write the question that actually is placed on the ballot word them in a such a way that a blank ballot (that doesn’t have Yes or No marked) counts in their favor. Basically it’s more slime-ball politician b.s., but because they circulate the petition with the question worded that way it ends up on the ballot that way. Again, total b.s.

The simple answer to that is that it’s in the Minnesota constitution. The constitution states that in order for an amendment to pass, a majority of VOTERS need to be in favor. In other words, over 50% of all people to cast a ballot need to vote yes. So if you don’t vote yes, it basically counts as a no.
I think it makes sense because of the importance of amendments. A majority of people should be in favor for it to pass. If an amendment that no one cares about is on the ballot, and only half of people care to vote on it, it shouldn’t pass.
