MATTERS AT HAND: Internet offers a tool to imagine the future

Our towns have a chance to test the power of the Internet through something called “Engage the Forks.” That’s not all, though. The project could help the community make decisions that shape the future. Continue Reading

I just spent a day on engagetheforks.com.
The place is a disaster. The whole premise is rigged to be a cheerleader squad for Grand Forks City Government. Anything that can be done…can be done better with a taxpayer-funded subsidy! God forbid anything would happen due to private enterprise taking a risk and filling a need WITHOUT a handout from Mayor Brown, or the school board, or the park board…
Negative comments are utterly eliminated. There is no way to vote “against” something. You can only vote “FOR” something. Nothing but positive for Good Old Grand Forks.
The web site is so saccharine as to make me gag.

They want us to clean it up as if we are in church…but this isn’t church. This is real life not the fake crap they spout at coffee hour. Just be yourself Schurkey, as if I need to tell you that. I like you because you are real.
On a side note….the next time Tom Dennis slams us we should be allowed to respond. Okay Mike?

This is a board that allows comment about Shakira, but not the hockey player story or the Jesus Camp.

Oh, yeah–this site is grotesquely over-mod erated and with no opportunity to comment on “selected” issues. One significant difference is that–unlike “engagetheforks.com” it’s not sponsored by City Government for the purpose of promoting propaganda and encouraging new and creative reckless Government spending schemes.
