The effectiveness of spraying and larvicide in a year like this is almost not debatable. This year, cities that did not use larvicide had almost zero mosquitoes too. Even when mosquitoes are present in normal numbers, elimination of habitat(small pools of water, overgrown hedges, long grass, etc.) does wonders to reduce mosquito counts. Even in these dry conditions, we were at a state park and managed to find a mosquito problem. I can’t imagine what a place like that would be like in a normal year. Keeping your neighborhoods clean is about 3/4ths of the answer. Of course, the department will keep these funds in reserve for a “rainy day.”
