Muslims and Christians explore common bonds during Iraqi Kurds’ visit to Duluth
September 19, 2012 at 7:00 pm in Duluth News Tribune
Religion doesn’t have to be a barrier between the East and the West, a member of an Iraqi delegation visiting Duluth told a group on Wednesday.

— “As Muslim believers we think that all religions are correct. We believe in all the messages of other religions, because all of them are messages from God.”—
There are also millions of people who call themselves Muslim that believe ONLY their brand if Islam is correct and that all other religions come from the devil. They are the ones we need to be thinking about and defending ourselves from.

This reminds me of a joke.
A Christian and a Muslim walk into a bar. The Christian says “Buddy, you’re a good guy, but there are a lot of really bad Muslims out there.”
The Muslim says “There sure are! There are also a lot of really bad Christians.”
The Christian says “What’s your point?”

That reminds me of a joke.
A Muslim comes to town. He tells a bunch of people that we Muslims all believe in all the messages of other religions, because all of them are messages from God.”—
And the towns people believed him.

It seems that many people mistake pattycake explanations of human behavior (for example, see the recent rioting & assassination in Libya) and believe that events are inspired solely by a given religion. And then they say things like “There are also millions of people who call themselves Muslim that believe ONLY their brand [of] Islam is correct and that all other religions come from the devil.” It seems entirely possible that they would use this reasoning to support inhumane treatment of Muslims and other “exotic” populations in general and, frankly, I can’t tolerate such extravagantly ill-informed BS on general principle.
I suspect that you may be one of these people. One of these people who thinks a gun would help them when a library card is what they need. Having a gun in the closet doesn’t hurt, of course.

The Quran starts off with a series of books called Suras. In the first few Suras the Quran identifies Allah as the one and only God. You must strictly follow Allahs word or you are an infidel and subsequent suras direct followers of Allah (believers) to kill all infidels. In fact if a follower of Allah kills an infidel that believer is entitled to all possessions of that infidel, including the house, property, cattle, wives and children. If a believer is in any kind of trouble and asks for shelter to hide from detection, a believer must provide that person shelter or is considered an infidel an is subject to being killed. Kind of explains Osama hiding right next to govt offices in Pakistan, doesn’t it? Islam is a religion of “Believe or Die”. Plain and simple.

Rania sounds like a wonderful guy and has a beautiful religion. But where he needs to be spreading that message is in the dozens of countries around the world where people who call themselves Muslim are murdering Christians and blowing up churches. Convince these Muslims that THEY are wrong about Islam. And he may actually do some good and save some lives.

In moderation, religion can be a very useful tool for our society. The problem is that just like any tool it can be used improperly and sometimes as a weapon.
That weapon is more effective when used to control a group of people who do not have the base of knowledge needed to be able to think for themselves.
But arguing this is like arguing which came first, the chicken or the egg. Is it the religion that makes people act the way they do? Most certainly, but I think the extreme behavior is caused by societal issues rather than the religion itself.
Most of the followers of these religions in modern nations are peaceful, caring individuals.

You’re aware maybe of the Crusades and war Christians waged on Muslims? How about the Spanish Inquisition? How about the bombings of abortion clinics and killing of abortion Doctors? How about the Christian Pastor that inflamed the Muslim world with film and burning of Koran? Throughout history Christians have slaughtered whole groups of people because they were considered pagans. We actually had Christian Chaplain bless the Engola Gay and say to crew that they were doing God’s work!
Muslims don’t own the patented rights to fanatics, they come in all denominations and religions.

Just because one religion no longer does what another religion is currently doing does not mean there is a problem with the religion.
It means there is a problem with the society in which the religion is prevalent.

I have not been aware of any recent activity along those lines — nor have I done any research — but I would note that I have had first-hand experience with an incarcerated population and that prison was CHOCK FULL of Christians. Some of them committed senseless hot blooded murder, others raped their children for years on end.

I wish god would get off his butt and send a new prophet to fix things up before man destroys everything on the planet except the cockroaches and the rats. I mean a real prophet, too, one we can believe in, not just someone smooth-talking like a damn politician, or trying to fake miracles with David Blain video trickery.

“god” or whatever you want to call the power of the universe, isn’t the problem it’s our interpretation of “god” that causes all the problems. We keep thinking god is out there somewhere…..a separate entity that is all judgemental and looking over our shoulder all the time to make sure we’re following his/her teachings perfectly. That view causes all sorts of fear and fear is what causes the vast majority of religious problems.
Someone brought up the subject of christian vs muslim bad behavior earlier. I’m sure many if not most religions have had their own period of ill behavior. What bothers me isn’t what religion someone who does evil acts is…..what bothers me is when their very reason for the act is identified with their religion. For instance, if a religious fellow blows up a building that’s terrible, but unless he spews religious words right before pushing the button, it’s not necessarily something he’s doing because of his religious beliefs, but perhaps for some other warped reason. It’s when I hear someone yell, “god is great” right before pushing the button to blow up (or some other criminal act) something that people start to identify the act with a specific religious view rather than just nutty people in general.
Personally, I can’t imagine following anyones instructions to worship a god who asked his followers to wreck all kinds of carnage to people, places or things to please him and bring paradise here or somewhere else after they die no matter what brand of belief it is.
Again, god isn’t the problem, we’re the problem, our intrepration of god is the problem, our belief that only god can bring about parasise on Earth by converting all others to our brand of religion or off with their heads. Certainly we couldn’t do that with better behavior and caring for our fellow citizens………could we ?

The Quran identifies Allah as the one and only God.
Our own bible states
“I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before Me” (Exodus 20:2-3
So who is right? All faiths have their own set of beliefs and not all make sense to the other.
if we are to blame all Muslims for the recent happenings we should also blame all other religions worldwide for the extreme behaviors of their people.

The notion of a “correctness’” of any one religion reminds me of this quote:
“We seldom realize, for example, that our most private thoughts and emotions are not actually our own. For we think in terms of languages and images we did not invent, but which were given to us by our society.” — Alan Watts
So then, whether or not you are a Christian, Muslim, Jew, Buddhist (or whatever) really has nothing to do with any sort of “Divine Truth” and everything to do with the social milieu in which you were brought up. It’s by and large an accident of your birth. This becomes abundantly clear if you have lived for any period of times among other cultures. Christian men I’ve known that have converted to Islam for have done so to marry Muslim women and certainly have never bothered to visit a mosque again. It’s the epitome of arrogance that those of one belief would wish to attempt to convert those of another.
I’ve never talked to anyone who has come back from the dead. Have you? Nobody really has the slightest idea of what they are talking about. And, by the way, who came up with the idea of monotheism or the so-called Holy Trinity anyway? It seems to me the whole cast of characters in Greek and Roman theology were a lot more entertaining.
