I think there should be a spot set aside for the dingys. I also think that if someone wants to put a powerboat on a mooring he or she should be able to do that too. At $600 for the summer it’s a steal. Why special treatment for the sailboats? The alternative is to rent a slip at the marina. That cost is $6300 for a 36 foot slip for the whole year including winter storage. You can bring a dingy with and park your car included in that cost.
As far as the big crusie ship at the public dock, all that does is fill up 300 parking spots In downtown with cars when the ship fills with people and leaves Hudson. Usually during peak dining hours. When the ship returns most of the 300 people get back in their cars and go home. What is the benefit for downtown Hudson? I think the high tax paying restaraunt owners would love to have those parking spots for their customers. Most people know of the acute shortage of parking spots in downtown during peak times. Put a few smaller commercial boats on those docks with different owners that have different ideas to attract people.

If parking gets bad enough, the city could force the dinner boat owners to provide shuttle service to a remote parking lot for their clients, for example, the high school lot during the summer months.
I agree with Bob – it’s probably a low percentage of the dinner boat clients that stay around town and use Hudson businesses.

Do downtown business owners have a way to track that? I’d be curious too to see if coupons or such handed out on the boat were redeemed at the shops.

Dingies are small enough where you would not need a trailer. The city passed a policy where you can launch your boat and park away from the boat launch parking lot as long as you don’t have a trailer attached.
