Yet another example of North Dakota’s penchant for equating quantity with quality and the Herald serving as a billboard for UND press releases. No mention of the downsides: over 50% of undergraduates taking 6 years to get a degree, 20% of freshman not returning, over dependence on low-paid teaching assistants and adjuncts, lack of housing, de facto elimination of admission standards. Of course Mr. Johnson and his fellow administrators are pleased; none of them have entered a clasroom in years, and don’t teach the students they’ve allowed in.

Yet another example of an overgeneralized complaint about a complicated national problem that doesn’t effect personal lives. If this is what worries you, kudos because I don’t have time. I worry about paying the interest on my loans, not who takes responsibility to graduate in 4 years.

So, how much more would your loans be if you had to graduate in six years instead of four?

Well, Its going to take me 5 1/2 years to graduate (coming May) and I don’t have any debt. I simply took a smaller course load for a year longer and worked my way through college. Ya it sucks working 2 jobs and going to school but it is going to put me in an exponentially better position in the long run.
For the record, I am not the smartest guy around and UND may not be the most prestigious academic school in the country but I’m proud of the degree that I’m going to get. Lots of hard work and long hours have gone into it and I don’t think that I’ve received a bad education.
