Schools can only do so much. It’s parents who need to lead by example here. Let’s put down the snacks and pop, turn off the TV and do something FUN outside with the kids. Just 20 minutes EVERY DAY will be a game changer for you and your family. On your deathbed you’ll never regret quality time spent with family but you will bemoan all those wasted hours, days, years parked in front of a TV.

Schools have plenty to do. There was corporate pressure to put all that crap in vending machines in schools. The companies would offer the schools money on the stipulation that their products were sold in schools. A good deal for them to get these customers hooked early. The parents and children were then bombarded at home with commercials for these products. Nobody knew any better and it became normal. It will take time and work to reverse. Running around after school is one thing, diet is another. Then the school lunches themselves have been cheap crap at least since I was in middle school 40 years ago. It has been proven the good nutrition improves school performance.

Glad that $90,000/yr PR gal took the time to report no more candy in the schools. That new wasteful middle school is about 3 miles away from Central on a hill. Any bidders yet on it? Thanks Dixon.

When the NLX Bullet Express is being constructed, the school board should insist that they build a spur to the new middle school. Then, kids can take the train to school – it’s a very green mode of transportation!
