EDITORIAL: Time for city to step forward

OpinionThe Hudson City Council has a big decision to make — to rezone or not rezone the St. Croix Meadows dog track property for a potential new school.
We can see both sides of the argument: Continue Reading

Maybe if you actually did some journalism and explained that the referendum was only to puchase the property on the condition it was rezoned and another referendum would be required to actually do any bulding on the site. Maybe also throw in there that they don’t know what the cost will be to put a school there. The voters would have been far more informed and most likely voted down the referendum. I think a lot of the folks in Hudson voted for this and had no idea what it truely meant. At least the city council/ planning comission could see the backwards way the school board is trying to use the taxpayers money. You don’t start a building project without knowing what it will cost, seems like a easily understood concept. Congratulations to the planning comission for stepping up and doing what makes sense. Great to see some backbone! Hopefully the city council will follow suit.

This editorial is so out-of-touch with reality it’s pathetic. Clearly, it’s past time for Editor Stohlberg to retire. The “people” would have passed a referendum for a new school no matter where it was located — because the “people” know we need a new school. But the city council knows that its job is to follow their comprehensive plan, secure the financial health of the city and protect the city taxpayers. Thank goodness that the city council members are not swayed by drivel like this editorial to undermine their comprehensive plan for the city. They did the right thing. Let’s see the next editorial take the school board and superintendent to task for wasting a precious year on this dog-track-to-school debacle that they should have know all along could not move forward.
