St. Louis County commissioners will set their preliminary 2013 property tax levy today with an increase of less than 2 percent expected, following a trend in recent years of tax increases lower than the rate of inflation.

Sixty-three percent of SLC is owned by the federal, state, county, and local governments. This leaves us taxpayers with the burden. Meanwhile wilderness fanatics are constantly clamoring for more land to be withdrawn from private ownership and productive uses.
