It’s Our Turn – It’s time to get realistic about zebras

When you compare the fight against the zebra mussel to efforts to control the common dandelion, you can see what we’re up against: A near impossibility. Continue Reading

Really?, Dandelions don’t affect the fish population and if you wait to see what happens gosh it is too late!

We’re talking about an entire ecosystem being impacted — not just by zebra mussels, but by Eurasian Watermilfoil, Hydrilla, Snakehead, Carp and ZM. We’re also talking about an entire economy dependent on tourism, fishing, boating, swimming, resorts, etc. Are you aware that the presence of milfoil alone in lakes caused a 16.4% decline in property values in Vermont according to a recent study? Dandelions can be pulled, sprayed, picked or made into wine. Aquatic invasive species alter a water body forever. While it’s tragic that Douglas County lakes are infested, hopefully the efforts of lake associations and volunteers prevented other lakes from being infested. Before calling the efforts and investments of lake associations, the DNR and volunteers stupid, please ask a few questions of groups like COLAs, lake associations or even the DNR. Youi’ll learn a great deal. Your comparison is simplistic to an extreme.
