Why does’nt Duluth just publish a list describing the kind of people it wants in it’s utopia town so others don’t have to bother with being excluded. Hey Duluth taxpayers, you paid for it but you can’t use it.

This is absolutely ludicrous. You are outdoors, what’s next? Charcoal grills in parks are next, right? I mean they put off a lot more smoke, and have known carcinogens, right? Admit it, it is simply a witch hunt now against smokers.

Have you ever been in a room with someone thats poured a 55 gal. drum of perfume/aftershave on themselves? It’s enough to suffocate you.

Yep I have, and it`s like a one eighty to ciggarette or tobacco smoke, but it does the same thing.

I can’t handle perfume. Just being by someone wearing more than a little gives me a sore throat. The problem is women that wear it everyday can no longer smell it so they add more and more. What a waste.

If you smoking on the Lakewalk is important to you, let the City Council know. I’m a smoker, and I’m gonna sit this one out. I’m already banned from smoking in the bar and in my own home. What’s one more place?
I don’t know anyone who wants to go back to the days where every bar in town is filled with a haze of cigarette smoke after 10:00. Maybe it’ll be the same with the Lakewalk.
Hot debate. What do you think?

Well, it didn’t take long for the wild exaggerations to start. When was the last time you were on the Lakewalk in “a haze of cigarette smoke?”

This one has Sharla Gardner written all over it. She’s the deep thinker who said city buses belching diesel fumes at bus stops were perfectly okay, but someone having a cigarette (outdoors, mind you) might be killing people. You really can’t make this stuff up.

This ban would include chewing tobacco. Yeah, makes so much sense. So let me get this right, your dog can relieve itself in the grass, but someone who chews can’t spit in a cup. Unbelievable.

Nobody said that the councilors were the brightest stars in the sky!
Seems to me that there are “other” more pressing issues this city needs to consider than alittle cigarette smoke amongst the diesel, smoke stacks, car exhaust, corporation exhaust and the list goes on!
Just another example of trying to control what we do and where. Duluth has become a city for the seasonal tourists and a foe of its own residents! And Sharla Gardner is at the top of my s#*t list! There seems to be no common sense with her or her cronies when it comes to policies or ordinances. They have already made life unhappy for a lot of peope, and to ban cigs outdoors is over-the line in my opinion! Nuts! Crazy! Whatever you want to call it, this new issue is crap!
( I dont condone synthetic pot and such….just saying!)

You’re right Merv….I have no idea why with the pressing problems Duluth has, they are even wasting one minute on this issue which is hardly “pressing”.
I can’t help but see the irony that while we seem to celebrate with joy the opening of a new establishment that sells liquor downtown, we keep demonizing tobacco smokers. I doubt that tobacco use causes anywhere near the amount of social problems (domestic disuptes, drunk driving accident fatalities, hangovers/work place performance, anti-social/obnoxious behavior while drunk in public, psychological problems etc…
Any yet, we’re preoccupied with the evils of tobacco user which compared to the above list is relatively benign other than issues related to your personal health in your latter years.
Neither habit when zealously practiced is healthy…..but one sure affects others in a serious and direct way much more often than the other.

Is’nt it a law somewhere(California maybe) that if you give someone a ride in your own car and they object to smoking you have to stop. I’d throw them out in the middle of the desert and I don’t even smoke.

Yes they do and you can find them everywhere. Church, casino, diners, cabs, buses, walkways, shops etc. etc. etc. There ought to be a law baning them.
