Last year, a task force criticized Visit Duluth for what it called inadequate financial controls, and the organization responded by agreeing to additional fiscal oversights.

So if this guy gets about $70,000 where does the other $1.5 mil of tax dollars? If Visit Duluth got half this amount would half the number of tourists show up? Let’s give it a try and give $800,000 to fix up the town for people who live here.

Sid,
If that $800k was in the hands of the City of Duluth, they would probably hire 4 more people to sit around and get paid to wait for water pipes to break. Where they would then get paid double time to actually answer their phone and delegate the work to 4 other people also being paid to wait for water pipes to break. It would be a thing of beauty!
Visit Duluth does do a great job, the only area they could really improve is landing more conventions/corporate meeting and providing more information for those type of bookings. Other than that, they have done great on most of the events they have done. A good ROI in my humble opinion.

What happened to trust,it is not like this guy has not done his job well in the past. This should never have been sited publicly it should have handled internally & business should have gone on as usual.

Actually Lee, Samborski has been somewhat of a poster child for controversy. In plenty of scenarios, he has not done things well. Regardless, the Visit Duluth board needs to provide better oversight of the organization to ensure best practices are being followed.

1. I think Terry Mattson does a great job with Visit Duluth. 2. Gene Shaw gets far too little credit for its successful events. 3. Can we use Samborski as the tip of the iceberg? I want to know who else is on the revolving ‘independent contractor’ payroll of Visit Duluth.
