Carl, butting religion into this is also inappropriate as by our constitution there is to be religious freedom so that religion can not be used to dicriminaste against others.

Carl you may be surprised to know there are many democrats opposed to same sex marriage, for the most part it is a generational thing. Young people, including tons of young republicans, don’t understand the debate, as the term gay has been a part of their vocabulary forever. My generation and those 60 and over … well, we never talked about it. I guess if we didn’t mention it, it didn’t exist. In 20 years we will look back on this and say how silly, sort of when inner racial marriage was illegal … most of us, and I will say most, say ‘how silly’, or how the Catholic Church wouldn’t allow organ transplants as it was against the scriptures, now we say how silly. This isn’t a personal attack on you or your age, but as I have told my daughter, a whole generation needs to pass away for this to become a non-discussion. Gay rights have made huge strides in the past 2 decades which has totally surprised even me. In 2 more decades as I said, it will be a non-issue. To me the idea of opposing gay marriage is based on Christianity. However, many Christians approve of gay marriage while others do not. Marriage is not just a Christian rite, if it was, we wouldn’t allow Atheists to marry, or any other religions. I have no idea where the Muslim religion stands on this, I am guessing they are vehemently opposed … wouldn’t it be something that this is one thing the two religions have in common, or should I say some of the members of both religions have in common. Again, I know plenty of democrats opposed to gay marriage and a few republicans for it .. so who knows! We could take a vote today and I think it would be the same as a vote last month or in November, people have already made up their minds. Let me close with this … *stepping on my soap box again* … a constitution AFFORDS rights to people … laws TAKE rights away!
