Funny thing is he repeated the Karl Rove/Republican philosophy and not the Denocrat phlosophy.

I think it is very striking that I recently saw a video clip of George W. Bush pretty much saying the same thing regarding his style of getting his message out to the public during elections. He talked about repeating the same message multiple times until the public eventually believed what that message was and took those beliefs to the ballot booth. And that was before super pacs and the billions of dollars going into negative ads that we see today. Karl Rove was heavily involved in political advertising back then and still is to this day. The lies are coming fast and furious folks. You just have to sort the wheat from the chaff.

The level of political rehtoric in this country is reaching new levels of insanity. If you let your political beliefs become your religion, there can never be compromise.

Politics has become the religion of many people. Many professing Christians believe it is their duty to bring Christ’s Kingdom on earth through secular means. They are misguided.
Jesus said that man cannot serve two masters. Politics to many Christians has become their master. Political and economic theories have become theologies and are more important than truly doing as Christ commanded, to love our neighbors as ourselves and even to love our enemies. Loving in that sense does not mean having fond feelings for, but it certainly means being fair.
Politicians on BOTH sides of the aisle are far more likely to use rhetoric that is intended to divide and provoke hostility. I wonder when the self-righteousness will escalate to the point of shedding blood, even in the name of Jesus. If the hateful rhetoric continues to escalate, the state of Social Security and Medicare will be among the least of our worries.

You are 100% correct. Everytime I remind people that God is not Republican, or Democrat, or Greene; He is God & if your political views coincide with His it is probably an accident, I get 2 thumbs down for every thumbs up.
People are in love with trying to legislate morality. It didn’t work in Christ’s day; He called the forerunner of the GOP, the Pharasies hypocrites. It will not work today.

Damn…I actually agree with most of that…..I guess that’ll be a strike on my “Heathen” card
Even though I’m not religious I agree that way too many people have latched on to all of this with way too strong of belief. When in reality the whole thing should be much simpler…..The Goverment is us or at least of us……They are public servants who are supposed to be our “Trusted Servants” doing what is best for all of us. Unfortunately this has been pushed into something akin to a new civil war. It’s no longer just two different ways to look at particular problems, but one side is right and the other side is so wrong that they are evil…..Maybe the people behind these messages are truely evil, but I think for the most part most of us out here in the cheap seats really don’t approach all this with that much conviction until we’re told “The sky is Falling…The sky is falling” and get so worked up that we’re ready to rumble……
Anybody on either side that tells you “This is the most important election ever” is speaking out of their arse with a specific agenda….We’ve had many really important elections and we’ve survived….You know why….because unless they change this from a demoracy to a dictatorship….I think we’ll eventually force politicians to do the right thing….Unfortunately it seems like it might take things getting severe before people will unite en-masse….but they will

So we have Cramer, one of the 2 clowns (with Sand), who became the sacrificial stooges or should I say, “volunteer”, for the every 2 year punishment by Pomeroy. Just as the Democrats had their stooges against the inevitable slaughter by Hoeven. Then Cramer gets into the PSC. Takes barrels of funds from regulated entities. His explanation: “it’s legal, so I’m not doing anything wrong”. Apparently ethics weren’t part of his upbringing. I’m reluctantly voting for Berg for Senate but won’t touch Cramer. Gulleson will get my vote.

The point of the book was that politicians are able to do terrible things when they are allowed to get away with lying. So what’s that got to do with us?
The answer is that We The People (aka “US”) are ultimately responsible for our leaders. If we accept lies in political campaigns, then we get what we deserve!
Of course, partisans believe that only the opponents of their candidates lie. They have faith, and seldom bother to check the veracity of what is said or written.
If this applies to you in this present campaign — then take a few minutes and check out sites like factcheck.org — and if you can be at all objective, then you will quickly be appalled by what is going on (and it’s all of them!).
So WTF can we do about it? Personally, I’d like to see “none of the above” on every ballot, and no person (or issue) wins unless there is a true majority (so run-offs might be needed). Then, we wouldn’t be forced to vote for the lesser of two evils all the time!
Perhaps that change could be made if some major political and/or media leaders started advocating for it — but that’s unlikely — unless We The People start insisting!
In the meantime, the least We should be doing is expressing our contempt for lying — whatever the source!
I challenge this newspaper to take a lead in that effort!

When it comes to politicians lying it’s much like the old joke about how can you tell when they do…..Their mouths are moving……Politicians will always try to spin things, but there’s a huge right wing network in all media that become pure propaganda. The lies are non stop and they get away with them because like you say….People just don’t check to see if they are, and because the actual news networks seldom call the opinion networks out on their whoppers. So many who never actually follow real new s accept the lies as facts and come on boards like these and repeat whoppers like the president is a Muslim, or Saddam was responsible for 9/11 and so on. It’s actually sad that in an age of so much available communication that there’s so many who narrow their focus down to the spin doctors and accept it as truth…

There’s a difference between lying and being blocked at every turn to keep from fulfilling things like shutting down Gitmo, pulling out of both wars, and on and on. Every advance he’s been able to make has come at a huge price with the right demanding their way or no way……It’s damn tough to get much done when the opposit party had professed they were pulling out all the stops to make him a one term president……BEFORE HE EVEN STARTED…..
As for the rest of it…I’ve been saying all along that the system is so damn corrupt with corporations and billionairs world over able to push huge sums of money in without even having to be accounted for….Unless we can somehow get a handle on this bought and paid for government…Things will just continue to get worse for the working class…….All the while those with their heads in the foxhole smelling those fox trots will continue to believe that this corporate propaganda machine really has their best interest at heart……By the time they figure the truth……Oh well….I guess they just might be “Comfortably Numb” and care less…

Obama said he was going to do all kinds of stuff like have the “most open and ethical administration in history”. In fact, he is at the far end of the spectrum on that. He has had as much of a majority in his first two years as any president can hope to have and as much in his second two years as most expect to have. Still it’s the republicans fault he hasn’t screwed things up as much as he would like.

His only majority was on paper only because unlike the Republicans democrats are allowed to vote independantly from the party and in 2008 there was several Blue Dog Dems (Or basically Repos with a D instead of an R because they generally always voted with the Repos) So they effectivly helped block a lot of what he tried to do.
As for the rest….Look…If all your info is from opinion radio and tv then you’ll never believe anyone that what’s been right in the open all this time and on the news, in the papers, and recorded time and again has actually been the repos fillabustering more bills than any other congress…..the repos have had only one plan and that was to obstruct….If you ever actually read the news or even watched some actual news other than opinion news you’d see that is exactly what has been happening…..
Do you really have personal reasons for this hatered you have towards the president? I mean it seems like all you have is parroting sound bites from right wing talking heads and instead of seeing if any of it holds water you just accept it as true and jump in with all this Anti- rhetoric time after time
How has anything the president done actually effect you in such a negative way……And how has anything the Republicans done actually help you in any way……they’re back to even more tax breaks for the rich to put us even further in the hole…..The tax breaks for the rich hasn’t ever worked since Regan first did them, and they plus two wars and an FCC that did absolutely nothing to protect us just about brought the country to its knees…..And yet you still believe these same ideas are great ideas when they’ve proven to be total failures. You might be The Brain….But damn…You have to be brain dead to keep believing that the same ideas that haven’t worked from the repos in over 25 years are now going to work just great….

Like I’ve been saying all along…If the working class ever hopes to get a government that’s concerned about their needs again then something has to be done to hold back all that buying power. This is where the gullible (aka, party faithful of either party) continue to amaze me. The approval rating of our combined Congress and Senate is 10%! One of those houses is Democrat controlled and one is Republican. Yet as a populace we’re content to send more of the same parties back for of the same. As far as ND specific, either one of my cats could succeed as a leader in North Dakota right now. What the media doesn’t tell you is that the recent advances in oil extraction technology is what has made the whole exercise worthwhile for companies to come in here and set up shop. Yet there are folks like yourself who actual believe that (in this case) that the “Republicans have made this happen”. I was on a flight a few weeks ago with a guy with the oil industry from Texas. I told him that politicians were taking credit for the oil boom here. He laughed so hard, he had tears in his eyes. Oh yes, Gulleson will probably lose big time. But, at some point we all need to wake up and come to the realization that these 2 parties of ours have nobody’s interests in mind except their own, not ours.

Yes…Ask the energy business and a big surprise that answers like the EPA, MESA, OSHA and other watch dogs are considered a big problem….Then again none of these were formed just because it seemed like a good idea. All of these and many others were brought on by companies not policing themselves or spending the money to make sure things are done safely, or without consequenses that will effect everyone around. I know the Republicans try very hard to paint the EPA as an enemy of the state, but look at your history books at how many horrible incidents occured that lead I believe Nixon (You know…..A Republican) to start the EPA in the first place. He might have done some nasty things, but he actually did get some things right and the EPA was one of them

Look at every EPA decision one by one. Is regulating dust on farms right? Are the new laws on windows and lead paint good ideas? Fining an oil companies thousands for a couple dead birds in a pond while wind towers kill many more birds but do not pay the same fines-is that right? It’s like bringing up the history of unions when looking at American Crystal’s current situation and saying how can you disagree with the workers because of the history of unions in this country.

I don’t know the specifics of the examples you cite, but if you’re referring to how after the dust bowl of the 30′s the government set up regulations to help prevent that from happening again…..I just heard a scientist talk about that very thing on the Weather Channel. He said that people have been wondering with the wide spread drought if we might see another dust bowl? His response was that because of the measures they took years ago and because of more no till farming that it doesn’t seem likely….So in that case I’d say the government helped us all.
As far as lead in paint and fuel…Both of those are a big plus…Those made people sick……Most of the things you site are problems that needed addressing. Much like this latest out break of salmonella on cantalope…..After the last outbreak more action should have been taken to make sure it wouldn’t happen again….But with all the cuts going on there’s little money left for enough inspectors to assure new regs are being followed….When it comes to safety that effects all of us….I don’t see a problem having watch dogs on our side…

I’d explain it to you, but if you don’t actually follow the news you miss out on what’s actually been going on….And from the things you say it appears you must just take a lot of the talking heads on the rights opinion of what’s going on instead of actually checking the new out for yourself….Otherwise you’d know about all the cuts that had to be made in areas that effect all of us just so the extreme wealthy can keep their tax break that has had more to do (Along with two wars at the same time…All off the books until this president…Wich once put on showed where we really are…but of course those Bush expenses became Obama’s by the right once everything was put on the table)…..That’s the cuts…..Look for real new instead of opinion and accept it as news….they’re playing you….If you’re the “Brain” Then use it and get real info instead of opinion…

But… I thought that was Bush’s fault?
Didnt Obama just say that fixing the economy was hard? Saying you can do something and actually doing something are two different things.
In Obamas case, the saying part can get you a Nobel Peace Prize, the doing (or lack thereof) however will get you kicked back to Chicago.

For him to say he didn’t mean to imply she was using Orwellian double speak is a flat out lie.
I do not have a problem with him comparing his opponent to Hitler, I do have a problem with him looking straight at the camera & claiming he did not have sexual relations with that woman …
