As issue strikes ND, a look at medical marijuana in Montana

As Secretary of State Al Jaeger reviews a medical marijuana ballot initiative, a Montana state legislator recommends sending it through the state assembly. Continue Reading

What the Montana legislator doesn’t seem to comprehend is how brutal this new law has been for those who truly do have a medical need for this herb. There is a four-year-old cancer patient who’s life is a grave risk without proper medicine, because our lawmakers think they’ve got some right that allows them to dictate who uses what medicine.
The simple fact is they don’t have this ability under the constitution and never did. In fact, the entire drug war is built upon the false premise that our federal government should have some jurisdiction over what people choose to put in their own bodies. If the right to choose my own medicine based upon my own beliefs is not a fundamental human right, then is it really a privilege which only the terminally ill should enjoy? Are these legislators playing God even remotely aware of all the various ailments and conditions this plant has proven itself to be useful in treating?
Something else prohibitionists always neglect to mention is how effective cannabis reportedly is at alleviating chronic pain. A problem even some of us relatively young people know intimately. In my case, stemming from a high school sports injury which left me with virtually no cartilage in my right knee. The Codeine I was given after surgery also led to a severe allergic reaction, prompting doctors to instruct me to never take any opiates again under any circumstances. Leaving 98% of ‘western medicine’ out of my reach…which became a brutally painful experience when the plastic surgeon (years later) was putting my face back together after an ugly car accident. He was the first of many doctors (back in 2001) to recommend I use the herb for pain relief. Now if they put it in writing, the new law this ‘representative’ is raving about requires them to pay to have themselves investigated by the federal government!!!
The larger reality is pharmaceutical giants are threatened by a plant we can grow without their help. So they buy the loyalty of our lawmakers with bribes and perhaps even blackmail in order to maintain control of the legal market. Much like Monsanto has been doing for decades in the agricultural industry. The enemy is not a failed drug war, it is corruption that’s become systemic throughout our entire government. Corruption that is everywhere you look, but in the media where it belongs…
