In new role, Ryan faces Obama in Iowa
August 13, 2012 at 5:33 am in Grand Forks Herald
President Barack Obama is blaming Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan for blocking a farm bill that could help voters in Iowa and elsewhere cope with a crippling drought, as both candidates campaigned in the important Midwestern battleground. Continue Reading

Ryan accusing the Obama campaign for negative ads while airing negative and erroneous ads themselves sounds about right for a repubican campaign. The thing that shocks me about Ryan is that after a carreer of almost 14 years in the House, he only authored and passed 2 bills; one to rename a post office and another to amend a tax on arrows as in bows and arrows. What a do-nothing. I guess he’s all hat and no cattle.

Ag bill? 84% of the bill has little to nothing to do with agriculture. Both parties need to stop the practice of horse trading one special interest for another. Send an Ag bill to the floor that is truly an Ag bill and let it have an up or down vote. Follow that up with a supplemental nutrition bill (the largest expense in the “Ag bill”) and let that have an up or down vote. The Republicans are not opposing agriculture, they are opposing the other 84% of the Senate bill that has nothing to do with agriculture. Both parties play this game and it needs to stop if there will ever be any hope of eliminating the bad aspects of special interest lobbies.

The President was still running against Bush on Friday. That has all changed as he is now running against Ryan! Maybe the repubs should run against Bite-me.

If you have Medicaid or Medicare and have tried to get a doctor lately you know it’s not an easy matter because Obamacare will be offering so little reimbursement per patient visit. It will also penalize doctors who spend more per patient than Obamacare allows. Obamacare TOOK $716 billion from the allocated Medicare fund, put it into the Obamacare kitty then counted them as a plus in both columns.
If you’ve researched this issue at all you know Medicare will go bankrupt in 2024, that’s 12 years from now, yet the Democrats, the so-called party of the little guy, refuses to offer any plan other than the status quo and mud-throwing at the only Congressional leader in Congress, Paul Ryan, who’s stepped up to the plate, even against the advice of his own party, to work to derail this devastating scenario. Ryan is highly regarded on both sides of the aisle because he’s done his homework, focusing on the bottom line, not the party line. He’s the youngest House Budget Committee chairman ever.
If you want a peak at your future under Obamacare I encourage you to do your own research, starting with Library of Congress Thomas library website.

If you’ve had a hard time getting a doctor lately, it’s not because of Obamacare since there has been no change related to doctor reimbursements due to that legislation. Please stick to the facts and ask yourself if what you are hearing via the radical right news sources who parrot this stuff is legitimate or if it’s just intended to inflame opposition.

No you are wrong…many physicians do not want to work within the regimented rules of Obamacare so they are taking advantage of legal options to either never enroll in Medicare or to voluntarily withdraw their participation. The Association of American Physicians has an internet opt-out form.
Obamacare cuts provider payments over time, causing 15% of Medicare Part A providers to become unprofitable within the next 10 years, according to the Medicare Actuary, caused by reduced payments based on productivity expectations that are difficult to meet, causing the repayment rate to grow more slowly than costs.
Many doctors in northern Virginia are no longer accepting new Medicare patients. Compounding this is the doctor shortage due to millions of new patients and millions more retiring baby boomers. There’s no significant plan to rapidly expand the number of physicians. In addition, many physicians are threatening to retire early instead of face a burdensome new bureaucracy.

Listen to yourself. It makes no sense for doctors not to participate under Obamacare, because almost everybody will be covered under that program. Where are they going to go for patients? And don’t confuse reimbursements for Medicare with those for the Affordable Care Act. The right does this all the time trying to confuse the issue. If more doctors are needed, then that’s a good thing for the United States. Are you against economic development too? We need to look forward and not try to duplicate how things have been in the past. Lose your fear, it’s going to be all right.

In England the best health care is still provided in the private sector. When their system started having long waits for basic procedures most middle class jobs provided private medical plans as a perk. Private medical care will always be available, unless it’s outlawed. But it will ONLY be available to the very wealthy whereas now, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, in 84% of Americans had private health insurance in 2010.
It takes at least 4-10 years to train a physician, there are a limited number of medical schools worldwide, and all of those physicians are in demand. Meanwhile we will still have a megaglut of patients and too few doctors. Why do you trust big government so much?

Carol, you got it wrong, the dems are “fighting” for the little guy all the time. That is why gas have doubled in price, Cash For Clunkers helped drive up the cost of use cars 40%, credit card reform force the poor to lose the credit cards and now they go to loan sharks and pawn shops paying 40% plus. But the good news is there are no jobs and food costs are going up, not to mention your points on insurance.

Carol, thank you for a thoughtful post. I think the medicare, Obamacare issue is blowing up on the Democrats however! I watched a video last night where Obama was discussing taking money from medicare. I can not wait for the adds to start running showing Obama in his own words bragging about taking nanna’s medicare funding! They claim savings make this theft of dollars, but Obama should have left the 500 billion so we have an actuary sound senior health system! We needed the 500 billion and these magical savings to keep it solvent!!

I am looking forward to the day someone finally makes it a law that only one bill may be on a vote at a time.
Im tired of hearing about how one party or the other wants to kill kittens because they voted not to save them.
What you never hear is the other part of the bill that sells our souls to the devil for a snickers bar.

“He said Ryan was among House Republican leaders blocking passage of legislation that “not only helps farmers and ranchers respond to natural disasters but also makes some necessary reforms and gives farmers and ranchers some long-term certainty….”
So why cant we have a bill that helps during disasters without adding provisions on the bill that the Dems deem as “needed reforms”
Its easy to criticize a person for refusing to approve a bill that may have stuff inside that is harmful to the nation but only mention the good part of the bill as if thats why he voted no.

John, your spinning obamas statements. He cut 17 million in unecessary expenses that are piled on by pharmaceutical companies! Big difference than the straight cuts ryan proposes. Ryan also promotes privatizing medicare! Putting it in the hands of the “honest” private buisness sector. We all saw what the private sector did to wall street when we trusted them to do the right thing.

John, your “nutrition bill” does tie directly into the farm bill. Usda government programs are a large part of agriculture. The usda is involved from the soil to the table. To seperate the 2 into seperate bills would only complicate duplicate and cost more in the end. The recent trend in agriculture is to promote a link for the consumer from the farm to the table. The farm bill is exactly what it is.

So the government is involved in control from the soil to the welfare table and that is their sole motivation? That’s interesting but not at all surprising.

Hey brian, think before you speak. The usda is in charge of the school lunch program also. They are in charge of the nrcs which every farmer uses. They are in charge of regulating plant and animal disease and pests. They are in charge of meat and produce inspections. They investigate and regulate food safety issues. They aid in crop insurance programs. They are more than a welfare advocate! I know it is easier for you to throw out such a biased statement for political gain of you your party. They are a very diverse aagency that is beneficial to our country

Ron, 79% of the farm bill is the food stamp program. Sure 21 % of the money goes to programs that are in some way farm related, though only a small part is actual farm subsidies. The farm bill is largely a welfare bill. As far as food to the paying customers table, private industry is pretty efficient handling that. On the other hand “Obama cut $17 million in unnecessary expenses” while he blew $1.3 trillion of money we don’t have. Wow! that’s impressive! You hard left lap dogs aren’t hard to please.

Here we go loopdy loo……Well…It’s that time….Time close to the elections where just like the name game and the Crystal Sugar game there’ll be more articles like this where we’ll line up on opposing sides repeating the same arguments over and over……Man they have us pegged….We’re so damn predictible….Keep us fighting amoung ourselves so the whole political environment can basically continue to go down this toxic path that burns all of us while feeding the greed.
Remember in the Godfather when Michael said “In a few years we wont need to be these street gangsters because we’re going ligit?” Ya…It was just a line from a movie, but basically a right on prediction…….If you’ve ever studied much about organized crime you see many of the same patterens in what’s considered big business today…..And with the political system bought and paid for…..We’re all being ripped off regardless what side you think you support

Here’s a bit of an explaination of what might be happening in the medical field.
The Dead Duck
A woman brought a very limp duck into a veterinary surgeon. As she laid her pet on the table, the vet pulled out his stethoscope and listened to the bird’s chest. After a moment or two, the vet shook his head and sadly said, “I’m sorry, your duck, Cuddles, has passed away.”
The distressed woman wailed, “Are you sure?”
“Yes, I am sure. Your duck is dead,” replied the vet.
“How can you be so sure?” she protested. “I mean you haven’t done any testing on him or anything. He might just be in a coma or something.”
The vet rolled his eyes, turned around and left the room. He returned a few minutes later with a black Labrador Retriever. As the duck’s owner looked on in amazement, the dog stood on his hind legs, put his front paws on the examination table and sniffed the duck from top to bottom. He then looked up at the vet with sad eyes and shook his head.
The vet patted the dog on the head and took it out of the room. A few minutes later he returned with a cat. The cat jumped on the table and also delicately sniffed the bird from head to foot. The cat sat back on its haunches, shook its head, meowed softly and strolled out of the
room.
The vet looked at the woman and said, “I’m sorry, but as I said, this is most definitely, 100% certifiably, a dead duck.”
The vet turned to his computer terminal, hit a few keys and produced a bill, which he handed to the woman.. The duck’s owner, still in shock, took the bill. “$150!” she cried, “$150 just to tell me my duck is dead!”
The vet shrugged, “I’m sorry. If you had just taken my word for it, the bill would have been $20, but with the Lab Report and the Cat Scan,
it’s now $150.”
Hey!!!!! We don’t have to be so damn serious about this crap all the time…..Do we?
