Minnesota senator: Gov. Dayton took ’15 or 16 pills’ during meeting
August 7, 2012 at 9:14 am in Duluth News Tribune
Sen. Mike Parry wouldn’t say why he brought up the pill incident, saying his point was that a Democratic-controlled Legislature would be dangerous. Continue Reading

Maybe Mike Parry is just a very depressing breakfast guest.

You mean like “Romney killed a woman” or “Romney hasn’t paid taxes for ten years” or “Romney is a felon” or “Republicans want to slit grandmas throat and then throw her over a cliff” or “Republicans want dirty air and dirty water” or “Republicans want the old and the disabled young to die” or “If you want to see what is in the bill, you will have to pass it.” No Jeffery, Republicans do not have a monopoly on sleaze, in fact the Republicans are pikers compared to Dumbocrats with their mud-slinging and sleaze.

Sounds like you listen to too much AM talk radio, ulysses, because I haven’t heard of any of these claims… nor would any progressives I know take them seriously if they did.

Merv, pull your head out of your arse. Having your head in there is the only way you could possibly have missed hearing the lies being touted by the Obama campaign. Sadly some people are so ign*rant they will believe the lies, other will vote for Obama because of his color. Enough ign*rant believers of the lies and enough racists and Obama will be reelected. That is his strategy.

While I agree that politics on both sides are full of sleaze, if you are going to accuse the Obama camp of making those claims, you are going to have to provide some links.
I have not heard any of those claims you make. I have heard questions about Romney’s tax returns, but not that he hasn’t paid taxes. Though in the realm of the telephone game that is politics “Romney won’t release his last 10 years of tax returns” can easily be morphed into “Romney hasn’t paid taxes in 10 years”.

Dorkus, Senator Harry Reid said on the Senate Floor that he had a reliable source saying Governor Romney had not paid taxes for ten years.
When asked to “put up or shut up”, Reid suddenly became silent and non-committal.

ulysses: You are so right (what, I’m agreeing with you?). It’s sleaze on both sides. As far as I’m concerned, both parties are full of sh!t.
I’d give some serious thought to Jill Stein and the Green Party if it weren’t for the fact that their vice presidential candidate, Cheri Honkala, was formerly a homeless person. However, this party certainly needs to be included in the national debates. Business as usual can’t go on.
Many of the country’s woes can be directly traced to dependance on foreign oil. We’d better start SERIOUSLY getting off that, and sooner rather than later. We had better start SERIOUSLY turning to clean, renewable energy sources. Clean water is going to become more and more of an issue in the years ahead as well.
Anyway, I like George Carlin’s take on voting: He doesn’t (or so he saidy[RIP, George Carlin]). Click on this for a laugh: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xIraCchPDhk

Mr. Gerber: Yes we d agree on some issues. When it coms to todays politics I would suspect that more than just you and I think that both major parties have gone to h*ll. Politics today seems to mean mudslinging and sleaze instead of talkng about issues important to our country and our economy. Could that be because neither party has a good plan to lead us to recovery? Man!!! We need a truly viable and electable third party.

I have said perhaps a hundred times in my posts that I AM a fiscal conservative but I am fiercely independent voter (read tha as not alligned with any party). I will always vote for the person whom I think has the best plan for the future of our country. With all the mud-slinging going on right now I haven’t heard either major candidate make a statement of a vision for the future, only some pandering ie: Obama sucking up to the welfare class and the Hispanics and Romney kissing the a*s of the very rich. At this time I am inclined to vote for Romney only because Obama doesn’t seem to realize the fiscal time bomb he has created for this country with his reckless spending and additional, and expansion of, entitlements.

If you have ever looked at Dayton, looked him in the eyes, you know he is heavily medicated. He has the vacant, lifeless, “nobodys home” look in his eyes that the typical high stoner displays. Great choice for Gov.- an alcholic stoner.

Ulysses, you KNOW nothing of the kind. You surmise. And that’s what offends me about Senator Parry’s comment: it’s intended to invite people to draw conclusions, particularly negative ones. He doesn’t identify the medicine, just says it’s not M & Ms. If a candidate running for office has to resort to flaming bags of dog p**p and doorbells, they must not have much else to offer.

15 or 16 pills? Big deal. I’ve eaten two bottles of aspirin in a day several times before and my mother in the nursing home has at least 15 or 16 pills everyday. If you want to try better living through chemical dependency, try eating a couple of full bottles of aspirin for a toothache, drinking a case of special export tall boys, doing piles of street drugs all day and then go to the bar until you’re the last one they kick out. Then come and talk to me. 16 pills, what a piker!

Medication for depression is basically legally being high. Government representation is no place for someone taking medication for depression!!!! End of Story.

Don, you’re being silly. Depression is not always a mental issue. Sometimes a person is depressed because of a chemical imbalance. You don’t get “high” on depression medication, if anything it makes a person “normal” Not treating depression is far worse than treating it. There’s no shame in being depressed.

BUT his depression, be it chemical or mental, could affect his judgement and his decision making. Putting a person like that in charge of our state is not a good move. He could leave adverse effects of bad decisions that wll haunt our state for years to come.

Exactly! Your putting a person in charge that may possibly make irrational decisions because they are chemically imbalanced that day and that in my book is totally unacceptable and definitely not worth the risk. It’s like what Savage says “Liberalism is a mental disease” and if you think about what is going on in this country it’s not hard to believe. My God people, we’re past $16 trillion now and the forecast before any substantial changes is $25 trillion – are you kidding me???? Dayton, share some of them pills before my head explodes.

That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. Do you even understand the chemistry behind anti-depressants and their effects on people who are indeed clinically depressed?
Oh, you are a Savage listener? That explains a lot. Michael Savage went off the deep end about 10 years ago. Genius is just one small step away from insanity.
When it comes to nutrition, I will listen to Savage’s advice all day long. But when it comes to politics, I would rather make my own decisions rather than adopt the opinion of a Bi-Polar talk radio host.

Don, I really didn’t want to bring this up but wasn’t your hero Dubya a reformed drunk? That’s why the country went to hell….. now I understand.

So you are condemning everyone who has realized they had a problem with alcohol, took the measures to overcome that problem, got their life together and are now just trying to live a normal life? A dry “drunk” can live a life just as normal (or probably more so) than you do as long as they keep in the back of their mind that they are susceptible and need to avoid certain temptations. Do you realize how many people you have just offended? And no I am not one but I am very familiar with many people who have put their lives together and are truly fine people.

Useless, your buddy Don was the one talking about reformed drunks. I am a reformed drunk that”s been sober for 35 years so I don’t need your lecture. Reformed drunks are some of the best people I know so turn it around on someone else.

quagmire said: “Don, I really didn’t want to bring this up but wasn’t your hero Dubya a reformed drunk? BTW: Congrats on your sobriety, and I wish you many more years of success in staying sober. And yes, a reformed drunk does seem to appreciate life, and the second chance, more than someone who hasn’t suffered from alcoholism. And it shows. Good work quagmire.

Don said somehow I don’t think the voting public would have voted him in (Dayton) if they had known instead they were fooled into believing he was just a reformed drunk. If that is the logic Don was using then what I said would follow his thinking. But thank you for the kind words.

Does Parry realize that Dayton isn’t running for reelection?
Can any kind of rational mind actually come to the conclusion that how much medication Mark Dayton may or may not take can in any way at all equal “his point was that a Democratic-controlled Legislature would be dangerous.”
So, if Mark Dayton is taking meds, that automatically means all the Dems are, or what?

It’s really disappointing to see just how little progess the mental health awareness projects have made in educating people.
It’s no wonder people are unwilling to let others know they suffer from mental health issues, when this is the kind of ignorance that still abounds.
Of course, there is the chance that a lot of these statements are made out of willfull ignorance too.

Naysayers, you make it sound like needing medication automatically qualifies you for the bottom-feeders nuthouse. On the contrary, many of us who need certain medications are solid members of society that make strong contributions in a number of different ways.
If it were up to me I’d rather not have to take any meds, but physical and emotional issues are part of my life – I choose a proactive approach using all the technology I can to lead a productive life. Not your call to say whether that’s a good or bad thing. Wear my shoes for a while then you can tell me what you think.
