Board could choose new county administrator or redefine position
WORTHINGTON In the four months since Nobles County’s former administrator, Mel Ruppert, stepped down from office, the seemingly slow and perhaps sometimes painful process of reopening the lines of communication and rebuilding trust has brought commissioners and department heads to the next step in re-establishing a leadership position. We really need to elect some new county commissioners. It seems to me that Chairman Benson should be the 1st to go. He seems quite content to waste taxpayer money on everything, and let Mel run everything, and lie to the people of Nobles County. After the mess they created before how can we trust them again? I say we can’t. We can’t afford Chairman Benson making more decisions to line Mel’s wallet.

I hope voters have been paying attention to the new candidates, even if it’s just the small bits of information The Globe has published about them. I wish the candidates would take initiative to inform the public as to where they stand on current issues in local government. Letters to the editor, personal websites, etc. More public debates or a meet and greet. Anything so we can get to know them better. I am not voting for someone simply because they didn’t like what happened with the Mel situation. They have to earn my vote.
No one in the current lineup has offered a reasonable explanation as to why Rupert is still on the payroll and why that situation was allowed to go on as long as it did. I think that, if anything, has really made voters distrustful. It looks like the Good Old Boys Club from where voters sit.
The only explanation I have seen is Rupert is on for another year to as an adviser.
A year? Really? I realize that even though Rupert was a jerk, he still has valuable experience to offer…but a whole year?
How about some answers? How come no one has answered the hard questions and how come now one has asked the hard questions? Would be nice to get some real answers so everyone can just move on.
Our Mayor is up for election for state Senate and this situation was allowed to go on the entire time he was mayor. How about an explanation, sir. This issue is the one thing that will sway my vote for this senate seat.
I am saddened that non of the new candidates reflect our diverse community but happy to see at least two women.
We need to get some fresh young faces and ideas in there.
