Gulleson vows to defend Medicare
August 3, 2012 at 1:50 am in Grand Forks Herald
Marking the 47th anniversary of Medicare, Democrat Pam Gulleson pledged Wednesday to defend the federal health care program for senior citizens against Republican proposals that she said would seek to dismantle it. Continue Reading

Anyone who follows politics at all knows it’s the republicans who would dismantle medicare, social security and medicaid. This is just another example of big money folks who have bought off most of the politicians can say that black is white. Sadly they’re successful with a lot of ignorant folks. Mussolini would have been very proud of todays United States of America… Look up fascism and we fit the definition to a tee…

Good point Jeff!
Glad to see you agree that since Obama took office we have been headed down that path at light speed.

500 billion dollar decrease in medicare spending over next 10 years thanks to Obamacare! Granted medicare spending will increase but 500 billion less than it would have increased without Obamacare. Can the Democrats claim support for medicare if they support Obamacare, robbing this fund of 500 billion?

This is NOT a decrease in benefits. The 500 biollion will come from clamping down on medicare fraud as well as savings from administrative overheads by providers. This 500 billion figure has been thrown around as if people will not get their benefits. In fact, this savings will come from elimination of fraud which is a good thing. I think it is a very good example of how the Repubicans are mischaracterizing what will happen under the Affordable Care Act. They could say that the ACA will save 500 billion for the American people, but no. They are telling people only half the story . This is the same thing that happened when Obama was recently misquoted. Only part of the information was used, taken out of context and then quoted as if he had said one thing when he had actually said something else. This is shameful and the Republicans should realize they make no friends when they try to fool people.

Realist, I am glad you realize that medicare will recieve 500 billion less over the next ten years because of Obamacare. You claim this shorting of medicare will be made up by cost containment. If that is so easy why did not congress, a sixty member Democrat senate and president Obama do this three years ago and save us 150 billion dollars. The savings are make believe realist, not real! Some may call this theft! Government always believes it will do better than private enterprize but they always fail! When medicare runs out of money, and physicians not treat them for free, our seniors will experience rationing of care! They and their employers paid into the system only to see socialists policies jip them of the benefits they earned. I am not trying to fool anyone are you?

They will not receive less; the organizations duping Medicare will get less. Big difference. Benefits to citizens will remain the same.

Johnb…..Just because there were 60 Dems doesn’t mean there were 60 votes….Unlike the GOP the Dems don’t vote in lock step….And neither should the GOP. They couldn’t get that rediculus 60% of the vote anyway because of the Blue Dogs….Who have become less of a factor after last election….
The GOP pulled trick after trick and the Dems just never dug in and fought them hard because they knew they just didn’t have all the Dems behind them at the time….Especially Repos in Dem clothing like Liebermann…..Now there’s a worthless piece of skunk dung if ever there was one….

There were attempt to do a lot more to save everyone money, but fillibusters and other nonsense moves kept weighing down the process….As for the numbers in congress….There was a lot of Blue dogs in with the GOP (Many gone now) so the numbers were never the kind of majority you keep referring to….Otherwise real changes could have been made.
None the less John….You and the others whoare so against the Affordable health Care Act seem to be gung ho to tear it down because in your minds these efforts are too expensive…….Even though an article just today points out that in america we’re now paying far more than other industrialized countries….That individually we are all getting far less bang for our bucks when it comes to health care and insurance. So is the idea to just keep going down this same path that has been broken for a long time now? If not…Then let’s hear how the right is going to fix the problem….Especially the “T’s” solutions….How are you going to bring down the costs and get more peopl covered so we don’t all have to pick up the slack through higher insurance (That gets much higher than taxes spread out through all of us…Insurance is for profit after all….) So tell us of the “t’s” solution to fix what’s broken…

Tundrabeast,FILIBUSTER BY REPUBLICANS?? The first two years until Scott Brown was elected, the Democrats had 60 senators voting as Democrats, including their socialist vote with Bernie Saunders and their independent Joe Lieberman! How could THOSE REPUBLICANS filibuster anything? I look forward as always to your explanation, but am confused by your assertion!

“I’ll help fight for it, I’ll defend it, and I’ll stand up for it so we can enjoy the path we’re on today,”
Thanks but no thanks.
The path we are on today is one of total financial collapse.
I’d rather find a different path.

The cost of doing nothing is a financial collapse to many on an individual basis, and to all of us through the never ending rises in premimums……So as I asked John….What do you see as the solution? Are you just saying to leave it well enough alone? Sort of “I got mine and if you don’t have yours…Then just die already so we don’t have to deal with you?” Because as in the previous article…..We’re going over the edge with all this increased health care costs, and we’re getting far less bang for our bucks than any other industrial country who has some sort of national health care plan…..Something needs to be done, but all I ever hear from the right is that “Obamacare” will ruin us all….When it’s the only plan presented….And you know damn well if this didn’t go through then nothing would and it would just continue to be the same gouging and robbing us dry…..What they are taking is far more than what little tax increase it might cost to cover more people and pay less for those ER cases that we all end up paying for..

Tundrabeast, incremental change is always best because their are always unintended consequences especially when you have congress voting on legislation they have not read and Democrats encouraged by their majority Nancy Pelosi TO VOTE YA so they can find out what is in IT! I do not trust her judgement nor Senator Ried’s judgement when it comes to my personal choices with my or my families healthcare? Do you?? Both will retain their congressional and senate sponsered healthcare! WHY???

Ok….You hate all this moeny in government…One area that a good deal of money goes to is these extremely huge staffs everyone in congress has. One reason they need so many people working for them is because it’s pracgtically impossible for one person to work on and digest these enormous bills they have to deal with all the time. They have others go through these bills and break down the different sections so they know what they are actually looking at…..Granted this might not always work the best, but then again maybe they should limit the staff to about three people…Then they’d be forced to have much smaller bills…..
You say don’t listen to the left talking heads….I say…Call the bill by it’s actual name “The Affordable Healthcare Act” and it wont sound so mysterious, scary, and as if it’s being presented or forced on the country by a dictator…..That’s the image the right has painted for you….There’s really not a lot to fear other than the misrepresentations that’s been handed to you…..Someone said that when the insurance rep talked to them at work about the new changes the crowd who came in there with much the same fears you keep expressing was amazed that they actually agreed with the vast majority of the changes…Once they knew the truth….Keep looking for the truth and maybe you too can quit being afraid of this…

Realist, I would not believe everything the Democrat talking heads tell you! For your information providers are only paid about 50% of usual and customary fees. Some providers are a presently not taking new medicare patients and this will only get worse, especially with top tier specialists. I call this rationed care, Obamacare! They passed a 250 billion dollar doc fix after they passed obamacare just to keep providers participating, but also to hide its costs. I really do not believe you appreciate the complexities of healthcare!

Does Pam support Obamacare and this theft of funds employees and employers paid into the system that is now even more underfunded than it was previously? When medicare is unable to pay the measly 50% of usual and customary it pays now and physicians are no longer able to afford participation. Obamacare will result in rationing, ending for some as a death sentence!

How do you figure that 500 billion is stolen from Medicare to fund Obamacare? If you do some research you will find you are wrong. Don’t let Romney’s and Bachmann’s lies scare you. You can’t steal money thay isn’t there. This is money that will be saved not stolen.

I am confortable with the claim that medicare is short changed 500 billion dollars over the next 10 years. Granted medicare spending will go up, but 500 billion less than it would have before Obamacare. I think you are simply repeating the Democrat spin!
