LaCrosse may require permits for sand-haulers; reports hint GOP manipulated redistricting process; Grantsburg firm cited, more state briefs
August 1, 2012 at 3:05 am in RiverTowns.net
Although LaCrosse County has no sand mines, city officials suggest they’ll require permits for haulers moving material through town. Also, several weather records were shattered by the long, hot July and Wisconsin Republican legislative leaders appear to have tried to shape the redistricting process to keep conservative lawmakers in power, plus more state news. Vs Democrats that use redistricting to keep Republican challengers from winning. Gerrymandering has been part of politics forever. No news here.

Racine County election officials didn’t receive the memo…or was it just an “accident” those signed election forms ended up in the dumpster?

Even more ironic is you have a democrat president who claimed to be transparent hiding everything he can while he bilks more money for “the common good”.

Redistricting is a tactic done year after year by both parties. Just because you liberals don’t like this one, means its bad. Typical. Hey, how’s the John Doe investigation you and your party have wasted thousands on going? You liberals waste more time whining then doing anything productive. The blame game, race card, etc…does nothing to help this state OR country.

Alice’s normal partisian view got me to wondering about gerrymandering history in WI, after all, the districts are redrawn after every 10-year census and the Rs aren’t ALWAYS in control of the legislature, are they?
For all the info on the www, I can’t seem to find a party-identifying report on the history. But the issue did come up before the WI Supreme Court, in 1892. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get the pdf to download for more info, but this is from the WI court.gov website:
“The State ex rel. Attorney General v. Cunningham and The State ex rel. Lamb v. Cunningham 81 Wis. 440 (1892) and 83 Wis. 90 (1892)
These cases demonstrate the power struggle, which is designed into a democratic system, among the three branches of government. The Wisconsin Supreme Court outlawed gerrymandering; that is, drawing creative legislative districts to preserve partisan political advantage.”

I like the freedom being an independant voter brings….I can question everything I read/hear, and not be afraid I’m being “disloyal” to a party. It also makes the liars and lies easier to see.

“Alice Riley said: On August 4, 2012 at 10:59 AM
Yeah, you’re independent all right…”
I keep wondering why MY comments are getting moderated, while you basically call me a liar.
I may be able to find my old Sierra Club membership card…would that provide enough proof that I was a former environut for you? How about the photos of the SC trail building trip I was part of out in British Columbia? Would I be on a SC trip if I hadn’t believed in those values?
How about my past voting record, where it would show I voted for Carter, Mondale, Kohl, Kind, and Feingold…up until Nov. 2010? Would being shown that record, proving my truthfulness, be enough to get you to apologize for all your disparaging comments over all these Topics?
You just can’t believe a person can change her point of view when the FACTS are actually examined…and I’m not talking about the Jounolist “facts” of the MSM.
Want to know when I, as an independent, quit voting and supporting Dems? When Obamacare was first introduced to Congress I read ONE sentence in a Pioneer Press story which stated, at that time, there would be a prison sentance for anyone not having health insurance. That ONE sentence got me looking beyond the MSM for the truth (aside from that one sentence, the MSM never mentioned a possible prison term). All the lies I was told by Kind’s office staff and Kohl’s office staff, and the fact-hiding info of the MSM got me angry enough to look at more Dem policies.
Nancy Pelosi, when she siad, “We have to pass the bill (Obamacare) to know what is in it.” was THE defining moment when I swore I’d examine issues and politicians to learn the truth.
So now I look at your comments regarding gerrymandering in WI, look at the historical context, see that the last 3 redistrictings have all ended in court (due to split government) and realize your claim of partisian politics is just your normal bias. The difference between you (a liberal) and me (an angry independent): I do my own research, arrive at my own conclusions, and don’t believe anything any politician says.

g.s. if my memory serves me correctly Alice hinted you might be a racist in an earlier post when you reminded another closed minded, good little liberal that you have voted Democrat in the past. Alice stated something to the effect that you started voting Republican after a black man was was elected President. More tolerance and open minded-ness from “an Independent who leans Progressive… : )”

“uber-conservative values”
Once again, Alice, you sarcastically place a label on someone you don’t know. I had to look up the label, “uber-conservative” to even understand it. What it amounts to is another Uncle Saul-type slap down you give without identifying specifics.
Too bad you never bothered to look up the history of gerrymandering in WI politics, and realized both the Ds and Rs have engaged in it. You could have saved yourself a lot of embarrassing comments.

As you pointed out, GS, Alice’s mind is made up. Even if the libs do things that are illegal, immoral, or just dirty politics, the end always justifies the means. Classic Alinsky tactics. But if you can just create a rumour about a Republican doing something wrong, it’s certainly ok to use that against them. You only need to look at the current BS coming from Harry Reid about Romney’s income taxes to see those tactics in action.

Alice is the poster child for liberal politics. Platform is simple; If you don’t agree with us, you’re wrong. If you want an explanation, you’re too stupid. Liberals are the most INTOLERANT, HYPOCRITICAL people in the world.

As a “progressive” explain to me how its “progressive” to punish people, like myself, who has worked hard for everything I HAVE MADE to share with those who are not even attempting to find work? Where is the fairness? Don’t give me the talking point about having “enough money”…why should the government decide what is enough for me?

“The GOP manipulated the redistricting process”
Let’s imagine the Dems controlled the legislature and governorship…would you have such faux hysteria if the headline read, “Dems manipulated the redistricting process”?
Haven’t you heard…this is partisian politics as usual. Read the article Walter linked to from the WI Reporter, and see what creative gerrymandering Dems pulled off in IL and VA…are you outraged over the partisian politics?
I’m not outraged because lawsuits were filed, and guess what, for the most part the plan was court approved. And it’s useless to call for “fairness”. Progressives idea of fairness was stated by former Sen Feingold…”It’s not over until we win.”
Let me quote you: “Good Lord chick, give it a rest”
