Nice work guys. I see the home team of where the tournament is held, gets in the tourny themselves. One thing Alexandria is lacking is another baseball field in town. Knute Nelson Field has the high school, clippers, beetles, legion, 2 vfw teams and several tournaments played on it every summer. There is hardly a day off for that field. If Alex can build all these new housing complexes, rebuild all these roads, new schools, why not build another nice baseball park? They could host tournaments to no end. A lot of revenue is being lost. Another thing. Look at the softball fields at Voyager school and 2 of the 4 softball fields at Discovery. They are being overgrown with weeds. Why isnt anybody maintaining these fields? Nobody will do it cause they expect $100,000 a year. Discovery east and west baseball fields are also in terrible shape. Why?? Someone with some cash and pull needs to get the ball rolling on a new baseball field.

Pay attention. This was in the the June 29 EchoPress. “…the outdoor facilities at the new Alexandria high school that will open in 2014 includes a synthetic turf field surrounded by a nine-lane track. Twelve tennis courts, two baseball fields, four softball fields and six multi-use fields will allow Alexandria to host multiple events at the same site on the same day.” Keep in mind that these improvements are all privately funded through fundraising.

Chaska (15 Games) is partnering with Chanhassen (8 Games), Shakopee (4 Games) and Victoria (4 Games) to get the four fields needed to host the tournament. Knute Nelson and Carlos, if they are not holding Region games for Town Ball, would work, are there two other quality fields in the area that can handle part of a possible 31 games being played on them over a four day period? They also have to have adequate seating/concessions and adequate parking. If there are, then this could have a positive impact on the area if a bid could be secured.

Julio, did you pay attention to what I said? What does a synthetic football field, and tennis courts have to do with what I said? Also, what good does 4 more softball fields do when most of the current ones in town are being grown over with weeds? They dont get used. As for 2 baseball fields, ones built on school property are typically scaled down with minimal seating, concessions and a lack of a true baseball feel.(like you get at Knute) Not to mention most dont even have lights. Have you been to a high school game at Knute in Alex before? There might be 50 people there. Its not like they are going to go overboard building them. Plus, most towns that host tournaments have the ability to serve beer depending on who is playing. That isnt going to happen on school property. That is where a lot of revenue comes from.
Beaver, other than Carlos the only fields might be Urbank,Brandon/Evansville. Not positive but I think being they are all Resorters team fields, they all can serve beer. That’s why I am talking about building a field not on school property like Julio.

You said, “One thing Alexandria is lacking is another baseball field in town. ” I said, among other things, that there were going to be two additional baseball fields on the school property. Did I miss something?

If we are talking about the Legion State Tournament, there is no need for beer sales. These are high school aged kids and there will not be beer sold at their events. I have not seen Urbank’s field since their upgrades, but when you look at Chaska (one of the nicest fields in the State), Chanhassen, Victoria and Shakopee, Knute and Carlos are about the only ones that probably come close to the quality factor needed to host these games. Evansville’s field, although nice for a town their size, isn’t going to meet that standard.

julio, a high school baseball field isnt what I was getting at. Im talking another Knute nelson where people want to play. Not some half-assed maintained field with little cement block dug outs where you have to walk out behind from to get a drink. wait and see
