Our view: Bayfield traffic tragedy offers chilling reminder
July 29, 2012 at 7:00 pm in Duluth News Tribune
Among a host of other run-ins with law enforcement and traffic troubles over the past five years or so, Chelsea Cadotte of Bayfield was cited at least twice for failing to put her young children in their safety seats while driving. In the most recent incident, she pleaded guilty by “no contest.” That was just about two months ago. She has been fined a total of $340 for repeat car-seat and sea-belt oversight.

It’s going to be hard to keep it civil on this one, but it’s very evident that this dumb cluck doesn’t learn from being fined, and now it has cost her ONE of her children with the others hanging on in critical condition, so I say THROW her in prison for about 15-20 years and give her remaining children a chance to live, and if, for some insane reason she gets off without any jail time (we all know how our judicial system works), then take ALL her children away from her, forever, and sentence her to cleaning the highway where the accident occurred, once a month, for the rest of her life! And she would NEVER have another license to drive, and if she was caught behind the wheel, then it would be jail time for sure!!!

Here is to hoping she loses custody rights on the surviving children, for their own sake.
If she is this lazy getting into the car, then she is probably also too lazy to feed them properly and keep them safe in other respects.
The loss of one child should be enough for her to learn her lesson, but for the children’s sake we should not give her a chance to prove that she has learned her lesson.

The worst of it is that she is not the only unfit parent hauling around kids without restraints. Take a look around when driving, kids hopping around the back seat, small kids in the front seat all while mommy is talking on the cell phone with a cig in the other hand.

If she were the father instead of the mother, charges would have already been filed. Actually, the kids probably already would have been taken away. But since she’s the mother, the children will keep getting placed with her.
Also, how come there’s no article about the toddler who drowned in Duluth township? How come those parents aren’t being subjected to the same quantity of media attention?

Make her stand at the site of the accident holding a sign with big letters that says “THIS IS WHERE I KILLED MY DAUGHTER.” I’m thinking daily for the same number of days that her daughter lived. Then throw her in jail.
