Your article brought back fond memories of growing up in Mitchell in the ‘50’s and taking full advantage of Lake Mitchell. There were many years of swimming lessons at the beach, and often we persuaded Mom to drive us out again in the afternoon. When wild plums were ripe there was a nice patch behind the parking lot at the beach. We enjoyed winter sledding and July 4th fireworks at the amphitheater. Fishing from the dam netted crappies and loads of fun. Bike riding and hiking around the lake were such great adventures. When I went to college in the Twin Cities I was shocked to find that full access to most of the lakes was private. I’m grateful that people are again maintaining the unique treasure that is Lake Mitchell.
