White House: Obama not seeking new gun laws
July 26, 2012 at 8:19 am in Grand Forks Herald
ven as the issue of guns shifts to the forefront of the presidential campaign, the White House and the Senate’s top Democrat made it clear Thursday that new gun legislation will not be on the political agenda this year. Instead, President Barack Obama intends to focus on other ways to combat gun violence a position not unlike that of his rival, Mitt Romney. Continue Reading

After Obama was elected the cost of ammunition soared. I hope it doesn’t go up again. A day at the gun range isn’t cheap entertainment anymore. But…I can make some money back by picking up all the brass other people leave behind.

What caused the price of ammuniton to go up?

1. Demand from gun and Second-Amendment enthusiasts who figured that Obama and Gun Control go together like bread and butter. (I’m one of them) Illinois and especially Chicago have illegally restricted gun ownership, and that’s Obama’s neighborhood.
2. The “environmentalists” making noise about lead poisoning, and how the EPA should regulate lead ammunition. That would be an “end run” around gun control legislation failures–outlaw the inexpensive and efficient ammunition, drive the costs up so that fewer people can afford to shoot. Fortunately, the EPA didn’t take the bait–which I consider a minor miracle. In the meantime, folks “stocked up” on lead ammo.
3. The government buying millions upon millions of rounds of ILLEGAL-FOR-COMBAT ammunition. Since it’s outlawed by international agreement, the only use for it is to kill American citizens and residents.
If Obama is telling stories about not seeking additional erosion of the Second Amendment, it seems obvious to me that he’s lying again.

Shurkey….Stop believing the reght wing crap you’re hearing from fox….Most of the crap you’ve listed above has been a ruse put out there exactly to raise the profits in arms and ammo…..Funny how the very people who benefit the most have pretty much taken over the NRA and helped spread all this propaganda.
Since President Obama’s been elected you gun enthusiasts keep getting this little scare sent to you over and over….It’s all been totally groundless…….BUT YOU PEOPLE KEEP FALLING FOR IT AGAIN AND AGAIN…….Why is the cost going up?????? That’s exactly why….You’re being played time and time again…And until you actually see what’s going on instead of listen to some propaganda and accept it for truth….It’ll just keep going up and up….

Obama is doing gun control under the radar. They are working to have us sign treaties with the UN. Once signed and ratified by Harry Reed’s Senate, the treaty becomes the Supreme Law of the land. The UN will dictate our gun laws and Obama can say it’s not me. Just another nail in the coffin of the former Constitution of the US.
Hot debate. What do you think?

32
Huh? That is simply unbelievable. Rolling the UN into the conspiracy to take away guns. Good grief. Obama is not going after guns, period. Why is that so hard to accept? How many ways can he say it? The conspiracy theorists will always win this debate because you can’t argue with stupid.

“you can’t argue with stupid”
Of course I can…I’m disagreeing with YOU, aren’t I?
The UN has been working toward anti-gun edicts for years. The fact that they haven’t been successful YET does not make them less dangerous, or less committed to eventually becoming a dictatorship that removes freedom and replaces it with centralized control.

Schurkey, the UN has offices in New York, but it doesn’t make our laws. What you are saying is fullblown unsubstantiated conspiracy theory looking for gullible people to believe it.

What do you expect….The gun manafuctures have done a wonderful job taking over the NRA and continue to pound home the message that any consideration of logic in the debate of keeping guns out of the hands of those who may be dangerous to society is going to mean they’ll lose their guns. The paranoia they’ve encouraged to those who are hooked on opinion media has made it impossible for politicians to even look at the problem without being accused of trying to take guns……When it’s never been about that…
There’s a problem in this country with too many nut and criminals having easy access to weapons and ammo…..Obviously doing nothing about it……..HAS NOT WORKED. So do we just continue to ignore it until it might hit close to home some day? Come on gun lovers……Use logic instead of paranoia and emotions on these issues….

The Oklahoma City bombing left 168 dead (possibly 169) and
680 injured. The weapon used was a bomb made up of the following.
108 bags of ammonium nitrate fertilizer
3 drums of liquid nitromethane
several crates of explosive Tovex
17 bags of ANFO
Spools of shock tube
Cannon fuse
Ryder truck
The only firearm involved was a Glock 21 pistol Tim McVeigh carried with him to use in case the primary fuse didn’t ignite. He would then use the firearm to ignite the bomb.
If someone wants to kill people they will find a way. The information is out there in order for them to do so. Think of the bomb the Aurora shooter set up in his apartment. He had the knowledge to harm people without using firearms.

As a result some of hose indegrediants are more closely monitered and accounted to as where they are going to….Because it makes sense to do something rather than nothing after aomeone has shown a way to do a lot of damage…..I don’t know what all needs to be looked at, but what’s going on now isn’t working or we wouldn’t even be having these discussions……

Tundrabeast: You and I disagree quite a bit, but we both seem logical. I always thought the NRA was simply paranoid, but the supreme court shot down DC’s and Chicago’s handgun ban by 5 to 4 in 2011. Imagine if the court would have been 4-5, which could easily happen with a DFL president in office through 2016. We think we have a right to own a handgun, but a one-vote swing would have put that “right” in the hands of local city councils. Obama could actually get his way with one Supreme Court Justice appointment. That’s not paranoia, it’s simple math.

Ok….That’s one issue, but it’s NOT the issue I and many others are wanting to get into…It’s figuring out ways to make it more difficult for people to get armed to the teeth so they can do as much damage possible. Look at what’s happend to schools since the several crowd shootings and I think ending with Colimbine…..Much was done to make sure those situations wouldn’t have such an open chance again….Granted a lot of it is on site security, but they’ve also made it more difficult for juveniles to purchase weapons and ammo in a lot of places…..
From some of what I’ve read lately there’s some loop holes or back coors that are still open that can allow unstable people to purchase both weapons and ammo without background checks or even much if any accounting.
That’s the kind of items that seem to need to be explored. The fact that to even attempt to talk about it brings on such reluctance seems to be a big part of the problem. And a big part of that problem stems from this atitude of the past few years that a lot of these issues have to be a winning issue on one side or the other….Somehow the idea of finding compromising solutions seems to be a taboo in this all or nall environment….And that’s just bat crap crazy….

FACT: Romney was a PROPONENT of GUN CONTROL as gov of Mass. He SUPPORTED “tough gun laws” in Mass.
FACT: Obama gets an “F” (from the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence) for his positions on GUN CONTROL.
The total LACK of objectivity on this subject is simply ‘more of same’ from the rightys. FEAR is the basis of their existence. Paranoid, delusional.

Jeepers creepers, Petey, why such hostility? I’m a righty who’s in favor of private gun ownership and gun control. I don’t mind at all that I have to register my handguns. So, if Obama is okay with guns, my Supreme Court comment is still valid. A 4 to 5 vote on the Chicago gun ban would have put the handgun question into the hands of city councils, whether Obama likes it or not. Four liberal judges voted to do just that. Why can’t we have a dialog without the anger?

Are you really that foolish to think this is just us against them issue? Is your mind rally that small that it can only be reduced to left and right rather than a logical discussion…..Or have you been listening to the right opinion gurus for so long that you’ve forgotten what logic is all about?
It’s small mindedness such as that that keeps these problems from ever finding realistic solutions and continue with the status quo….Because it’s far cooler than actually getting all sides together to try to hammer out what can realistically be done about a problem that continues to grow…….Hopefully it wont happen too close to your life before level heads have a chance to figure out what to do with these problems you seem to think hat are not even worth talking about sirously…

Sorry…I did come down a bit too hard on you, but I just got frustrated over so many times this coming down to simple left right issue and the left is just after the guns.
I know it’s in the middle of the political season, but do we have to make every damn issue a Lib and Conserv issue? Can’t we find some logical middle grounds on a lot of these issue without making referrences to one political pull or the other? Can’t we just talk our positions without trying to rekindle the civil war every damn issue on here?
In the past I’ve done more than my share of political baiting, but I’ve really tried to pull away from that and just adress the topics….But ocassionally I finally get irked and blow off steam…..And I apologize because you really didn’t say anything that warranted that much anger…

Look, Alvin, you yourself made the assumption that Obama was going to name a person to the Supreme Court that was anti-gun. Why make that assumption? It makes more sense that if Romney wins the election and names a justice, he will revert to his previous anti-gun positions that he had when he was governnor. Petey is right to be frustrated by the lack of logic in this argument which is what I took away from his comment. Gun control is dead as an issue because of this very strange paranoid way we have of looking at it. I may be a liberal, but I love my guns and I don’t think anybody would make that assumption about me but there it is. I know for a fact that Obama is not anti-gun, but nobody wants to believe the truth of that.

I was only pointing out just how extremely close the vote was. I didn’t assume he’d appoint an anti-gun judge, but the likelihood is there, considering the number of 5-4 votes the last few years. Of course there are many gun-toting Dems. I tried to point out my surprise at just how much this issue would have changed with a one-vote swing. The 5-4, party-line history of this court is famous and has been completely frustrating for the 4 (Dems). You can keep calling me paranoid, but I’m trying to make a most simple observation that’s completely apolitical.

I just looked at the USC and nowhere in it could I find where it says you have the right to a handgun or an assault rifle. I did see a part that says a “well regulated militia” which I doubt any of the posters here belong to unless they are in the National Guard.

Yes, Obama is the leader of the lemmings. The Obama ” Fast and Furious ” gun dealing to the Mexican drug trafficers was a deliberate attempt by the Obama administration to discredit legitimate gun dealers. It was being reported as “rogue gun dealers” until the whistle was blown on Obama. The purpose was to sway public opinion in this country against guns of any kind. “Intelligent black man”, do you say that because you think that would be an aberration. In the case of Obama I have not seen much evidence of intelligence, only deceit.

As we found out in Colorado there is little to stop people from purchasing more than enough killing tools without question. You can even be mentally disturbed and make the purchases. Of course the NRA feeds the false fears that the liberals are going to take thier guns away. When they do this gun sales skyrocket. Of course they represent the gun manufactureres and it’s good for business. Its all just part of the destructive and violent pattern that happens again and again in America. We get all worked up about it and then the outrage passes. Thanks to the NRA its a pattern we should just all get used to. Apperently its acceptable.

The NRA has gun owners and advocates right where they want them: fearful and trembling that they will lose their guns and their ammunition. “Buy more” says the NRA and the frightened sheeple do it. (Love the word Sheeple: who’s invention is that anyway?). The one to benefit big time are gun and ammunition makers. They know nobody’s coming to get their guns but they keep harping on that theme. I got a piece of mail just yesterday from Wayne LaPierre, the head of the NRA, and he goes on and ON about all the legislation that’s coming down the pike to take guns away from people. Total lies. Anyway, it’s a good thing I sell ammunition, but really, folks, you don’t have to stockpile it. It’s not not going anywhere. It will be available for as long as any one of us is alive.
