Alerus Center projects $460k profit in 2012

Grand Forks’ Alerus Center is $503,000 in the black at the year’s midpoint and has approved a 2013 budget that projects a small profit as well. A positive sign for a facility that has regularly operated at a loss, including a $49,000 deficit last year. Continue Reading

Ok people lets hear how bad the Alerus still is even though you dont see any “concerts” but yet they hold massive banquets/conventions that no one seems to care about or see.. ask Altru, Heath Care Horizons, ACS, Midco, Minkota, Crop show, sugar beet show, womens show, kiwanis should i go on?
also think about it where would these conventions go if Alerus wasnt around?

The synergies of oil, Canadians, UND events etc. means the Alerus has the ability to enhance these factors & act as growth engine for GF.

It’d be much more likely that they’re just lying AGAIN about the fiscal status of the White Elephant.
It’s not like this press release is an independent audit; it’s not like the facility management doesn’t have a LONG history of cooking the books; and it’s not like the City of Grand Forks doesn’t have an even longer record of lying to the Citizens about the cost/benefit ratio of the Civic Center.
Every time they release a statement about the Civic Center, I figure the Citizens might as well grab their ankles.

Why don’t you get on the planning & zoning board or the city council?

I like how you call it the White Elephant like you know what comes in and out of the Alerus Center.. get over the past and look into the future. this place isn’t just for concerts get it out of your head.
You have no clue what events happened in February or March do you? Check sources before assuming that they’re lying.

I don’t CARE about the events at the White Elephant. I’ve never set foot inside it, and I have no plans to change that statistic.
Last time I checked–about a year ago–we still owed more on the White Elephant than we were told it would cost–and we’d been making ten years of payments.
The tragedy on the edge of town is going to cost us ANOTHER 70-something (Maybe 80-something) MILLION dollars on top of what we’ve already paid.
We were lied to top-to-bottom, front-to-back, over and over. Why would we assume that the lies have STOPPED?

It was clear the Alerus was going to be an impacted wisdom tooth from the beginning when the supporters proclaimed they weren’t limited to the amount of money specified on the ballot measure.
