The Jamestown Planning and Legal Committee forwarded to the City Council the Flex Pace interest buy down for the planned Cherry Berry frozen yogurt operation in Jamestown. The move came on a 4-1 vote with Councilman Charlie Kourajian dissenting.

Patel, owner of three motels in Jamestown, said he was planning this project in Jamestown only because of the availability of the Flex Pace program.

Yeah, right!! And the Jamestown Planning and Legal Committee fell for that? He knew the JSDC will give handouts for anything. Well played Mr. Patel, well played!!!
At least Kourajian had the guts to do what’s right and vote against it.
Why even place this on the August 6th agenda? Is there really anyone out there that thinks this won’t get rubber stamped?????

“I would like to see the financial statements of the Patels,” said Dan Buchanan, councilman. “I would like to determine if there is a need for this money.”

That seems very reasonable.
Do they approve these requests without even reviewing the financial statements of the applicants?????

I am of the opinion that the FLEX PACE funds should be for a business that will create jobs that are more significant than 3 $8/hour jobs for high schoolers. I also believe that the businesses that apply for and get those funds should be those who NEED it. This guy is blackmailing the council into believing that if he doesn’t get the money, he won’t come. THEN LET HIM NOT COME.
I also question the raises for the JSDC. Why do they need 5% salary increases when the rest of us in town aren’t even seeing anything close to that in our jobs? What did I get this year? Maybe 1.5%, and most of my co-workers didn’t even get that! The JSDC should do the right thing and save our city and county some money.

Bringing in 1 job is economic development. I am happy to see some competition brought into this town and more options for a family treat. Competition only makes a business better. I dont want to start an argument here because everyone is allowed their own opinion wither that is based on fact or not. Everyone thing the jsdc does is public information, has any one of you requested to see the financials of Kal Patel so you can accurately make the statement he doesnt need the funds? All you have to do is call the JSDC office and ask to see it. It is your right. Has anyone of you been to a JSDC meeting to hear the whole story besides what is in the paper? Has anyone of you seen and read their annual report which shows you how good of a job the JSDC is doing? I am proud that our city has an organization like the JSDC to promote economic development. I may not agree with what they do all the time but they have the citizen’s best interest at heart as every single member of the JSDC Board of Directors is a VOLUNTEER!! So i want to say Thank you to the JSDC as you dont get to hear that enough. This is all i am going to say on the subject. Have a wonderful day everyone.
