The Stutsman County Commission unanimously approved a Flex Pace interest buy down loan for a planned frozen yogurt operation during its regular meeting Tuesday. The interest buy down reduces loan payments for a planned Cherry Berry frozen yogurt operation owned by Kal Patel. Continue Reading

“Is it justifiable to create more minimum wage jobs in Jamestown?” asked David Schwartz, county commissioner.
The application for the Flex Pace interest buy down listed the creation of three to four jobs with hourly wages between $8 and $8.50 per hour. Patel spoke during the meeting about how well Cherry Berry franchises were doing in other North Dakota cities.
“If there is that much prospect you should be paying more,” said Dale Marks, county commissioner.

It’s simply amazing that the Commission has these reservations yet approves it unanimously.
Does anyone in Jamestown/Stutsman County have the guts to stand up to the JSDC?

Jamestown Resident, I agree with you completely. What good will it do to create more minimum wage jobs in town? None, there are plenty of those – especially food service jobs. I think other Jamestown businesses should be insulted that their tax money is being given out to competitors. There are lots of businesses that don’t take money from the tax payer and still compete fairly.
As far as the JSDC, they can’t be stood up to because they are viewed by the city council as “the elite” in these matters – when in actuality they are blinded when any opportunity for them comes up. I’ll be they can’t even spell “no”.

I for one am very happy to see some competition come into this town and have a cherry berry open up. It is nice to see our town grow in the retail sector and with more options for a family treat. Competition only makes every business better. If it takes my sales tax and property tax dollars to do it so be it.
