“This is creating real problems for “born agains” because they always have regarded Mormons as a “cult,” giving them a reason not to vote for Mitt Romney. But most of them are also staunch Republicans who wouldn’t vote for St. Peter if he appeared on the Democratic ticket.”
We have discussed this particular point frequently in the past. While many have downplayed its veracity, it is clear that for some Christians at least, it is a major sticking point.
It seems the modern corollary of you cannot love both God and money is you cannot vote for both a Christian and a Republican.
As a Libertarian I have no such moral quandary. I stand by what I said when it became clear that Romney will be the nominee: Obama will win by 5 points, not because of his policies, but because Romney will fail to mobilize his base.
