I’m sorry to hear of Bob’s passing. I graduated from WHS in ’66. I first worked side-by-side with Bob during a summer internship at the Daily Globe newsroom in 1969. The internship (paid, mind you that) was instrumental in helping me gain valued “words on” experience as a journalist while I was earning a journalism degree from South Dakota State U. Bob (as well as Bob Vance and Ray Crippen) also were very understanding that summer when I had to split up my summer internship with a 6-week Army ROTC camp at Fort Riley, Kan. Under Bob’s guidance, I honed my writing skills to a point that the DG news bosses brought me back on board over Chirstmas breaks away from college for the next 2 years. Since then, I went on to enjoy a 28 Army career as a public affairs officer and 30 years as a public relations professional with Shell and Conoco. This career path may not have ever occurred had it not been for Bob and his fellow patient news room staffers at the Daily Globe in the late 60s. — Lynn Hohensee, Lake Charles, La.
