GLADSTONE Gladstone Park Board members intended to have a meeting regarding an eviction notice placed on the campers at Prairie Rose Park, but it turned into a shouting match when the mayor claimed the meeting couldn’t take place. Continue Reading

When people get into government, the results are usually the same: the worst comes out.
But that is what the state is … the worst. It’s for parasites, fascists and dictators.

When I read this, I didn’t know whether to laugh or shake my head at the whole thing. Sounds like a transcript from a bad reality show. Sounds like everyone needed to take a break for it and cool down.

The claimed ‘problem’ with the park is that “people don’t feel safe taking their kids to play at the park.”
Honestly, I don’t feel safe living in a residential area of town with campers literally all around me. There are at LEAST 10 campers in a one block area in other parts of Gladstone.
The city owns and ‘runs’ one other park in town. There is always garbage all over that playground, and in the last few months they have moved at least 8 manufactured homes in on the land next to the park. Considering they are all packed in like sardines and identical I can only guess they are also used to house workers from the boom.
So what is the difference between that park and the one that the city doesn’t make any money off of? Take a drive around Gladstone one day and tell me if ANY part of the town feels safe or is nice to look at.
Do you know who lives at the Prairie Rose Park? A family lives there. A husband and wife and their kids live there while he works to provide for his family. Another man lives there during the week while he works, and goes home to Bismarck on the weekends.
The ‘questionable’ people livin there all have jobs and work long, hard hours. Ya know, just like every other worker here for the boom.
They aren’t home during the day, so take your kids to the park. Don’t let your kids go alone. Why? Not because of the people you’re scared of that aren’t even there during the day, or who are sleeping. Because the park is next to the highway. No decent parent would let their kids go to that park alone anyways.
I think the real issue is that the city would like to be reaping some of the benefits of the cash influx from the park. What they don’t realize is that it takes a lot of man power to make that park run, and it’s run by volunteers.
If the city ‘takes it over’ it will turn into a trash dump like their other park and no tourist will want to stay there anyways.
