Dayton is casualty of war-football clichés

Football is replete with war vernacular. National Football League games have so many bombs, shotgun formations, blitzes, field generals, warriors, battles in the trenches, aerial assaults, ground attacks, defensive lines and offensive weapons that sometimes it seems as if Wolf Blitzer is calling the game and not Al Michaels.

He’s a grown man. Why make excuses for him? He’s rich and powerful. To imply he’s a victim is insulting.

This article puts his comments in perspective, but doesn’t let him off the hook.
Dayton apologized, and he took responsibility for his words. He didn’t weasel out with a non-apology like “I’m sorry you were offended” that politicians love to use.
Acknowledging that he did the right thing after the fact doesn’t excuse his comments, but it’s still worth mentioning.
