Access to Cottage Grove road a concern for future development

Cottage Grove economic development officials think they know why a sizable stretch of a busy Highway 61 frontage road remains resistant to commercial growth: access. Or, rather, a lack of it. Continue Reading

I’m sorry, I don’t have much faith in MNDoT after seeing what they did to Newport and St. Paul Park with those screwed up overpasses. A slip ramp makes perfect sense. All they need to do is add an extra right hand lane near the bottom of the of the south bound 61 ramp accessing west Pt. Douglas, or extend W. Pt. Douglas north a little and add one just before 80th. (the latter could actually help ease congestion on the overpass). The section of 61 from Newport to Jamaica in Cottage Grove should have never gone for the “Freeway” status when they did the Sieben overpass deal. It’s done nothing but inhibit any commercial/industrial growth along the route.

omg I am rolling and laughing. we have all struggled with that 80th street and jamaica exit from hwy 61 and entrance back on for years and years, and it will be the same when they develop the drive-in location. You have to have ease of access and Cottage Grove does not have ease of access anywhere!

A little history folks. Cottage Grove had those slip ramps before 61 and the overpasses were built. Back then, the early eighties we were told something would be done. Now thirty years later. I don’t see it happening.

If the development officials see it, why don’t they do something about it! If you increase it, they will come!

Okay how about this – a few years ago, District 833 gave the city of Woodbury money to build a bridge the purpose was to increase the tax base. So how about District 833 give Cottage Grove some money to fix the access issues that we have? It should increase our tax base also.
