Advertising’s looking more like us; companies hope older models lure older customers

Hey, baby boomers and retirees. If you think you’re seeing yourself reflected in more ads lately, you don’t have to check your vision. In a shift from what has been predominantly a youth-driven culture, advertising is looking more like us with gray hair, curves and crow’s feet as companies are increasingly booking older models to court older consumers. Continue Reading

Advertizing that you find on the Discovery group like History, Bio, and such……But that you seldom find anyplace other than the news on regular TV because most series are still geared towards the youth. If a new series comes on that’s well written and well done….I generally don’t give it too long because I like it….If I like it that’s pretty much the kiss of death on regular tv….

Yes, it makes perfect sense that older models will lure older customers…but please don’t forget that not every older person LOOKS old…
The attached bikini photograph of me was taken last Sunday 15th July 2012, on a breezy Cornish beach– just to prove that an OAP CAN still look good in a itsy bitsy two piece. International mature model, Marie Helvin in her commercially styled for older women bikini, may be making mega bucks approaching her 60th birthday, but as a Bus Pass Babe, I enjoy just earning necessary pin money to pay household bills.
No plastic surgery on my body parts thank you and even my long brunette hair is not dyed – goodness, on my pension that just isn’t even affordable. Besides the ONE time I had my long Repunzal locks coloured for a hair show, it took so much time and performance, I vowed ‘never again!’ Just a 2” trim off the length, every two years suffices quite nicely. Then, distilled Rosemary seeds to condition in final wash, plaiting to give waves without rollers and ‘ hey presto!’ glossy coiffeur that flows nicely and naturally in the wind. We’ve had a lot of that recently…and rain…but I digress…
Fashion is my passion and I love dressing up in beautiful ball gowns for the camera, buying stylish gowns (see picture below)from seconds shops and of course charity shops too. I never pay more than £25 mind, for any outfit – a pensioner has to watch the pennies…I may not make the runways of top London Fashion week shows, or Paris, or Milan, or even New York…but boy, do I have a great time. Modelling is a great way to keep fit and as a pensioner, I really am not yet ready for my Zimmer Frame, so I also do coastal and country walking to stay trim and healthy. This Senior Citizen has never dieted, yet I still have the enviable hour-glass figure of my twenties…A male friend called me the sexiest OAP in the UK…yes, well that may be a slight exaggeration, but as a former Miss Cornwall Swimwear and Miss Cornwall Bikini, I can still ‘sock it to them’ on a crowded beach.
I constantly do all I can to fight ageism..So do hope you publish this tiny epistle and even, dare I hope – my bikini image. (Give The Chelsea Pensioners at very least a thrill!)
Life is good for an old ‘un….pass it on…it is never too late…a positive message for any woman over 40 who thinks she might be invisible…I’m certainly not!
Use older models for advertisements…but they don’t all have look like grannies…I don’t.
