Hiring 30 new staff in Bismarck to make sure the colleges don’t waste money? Sounds a lot more expensive than a president’s house that went over budget. Most people who are familiar with UND know that there is already more than enough red tape (policies, procedures, committees). A year ago, a professor I had forgot to include a midterm in his final grade. Just to change everyone’s grades in the class, it needed to be approved by a campus committee. The whole process ended up taking over a month. Will Bismarck (i.e. chancellor’s office) now have to approve a changed grade due to a clerical error? My guess is that the new compliance staff will just make things more difficult and expensive.
With regards to the other spending, everyone of intelligence knows the proposal is more of a wish list rather than a need list. They Board knows that the legislature won’t approve most of it.

The greed of big education is endless! Heaven forbid having to earn an honest living in the private sector!
