“They know their business, and while they appreciate the safety net – and the robust crop insurance program provides it –they are not interested in having a lot of strings attached to it,” Cramer said. “They’re not interested in Washington telling them how to farm.”
I am not in favor of the farm bill. I have been clear on that. Statements like the one above are a big reason why.
I am not commenting on the merits of the ammendment, but the attitude. They want the money without the strings attached. Sorry folks, it does not work that way.
Whenever the government gives you money, there are strings attached. Do do otherwise would be stupid. A prime example are speedlimits and auto safety regulations. The states are not required to follow federal speedlimit guidelines or a host of other auto safety regulations that are so ubiquitous we no longer even notice them.
The reason the states follow the guideline is simple: they need the federal highway funds to maintain their infrastructure.
If the farmer’s want the money, they agree to the strings or they do what they should have no choice of doing: run their business just like every other non protected business person in America.
I want what I want when I want it. Sounds like my kids.
They get the same answer: you want my money you play by my rules. I don’t apologize to them and I most certainly will not apologize to the farmers.

I remember giving to Farm Aid thirty years ago….never again. It’s ironic that these are the same folks who tell others to pull themselves up by they’re boot straps. This is certainly not true capitalism…
