Dickinson city employees: We’re not paid enough
July 10, 2012 at 7:00 pm in The Dickinson Press
Dickinson City employees are not satisfied with the payment they receive for the jobs they do, according to a city survey, and the local government may need to make financial changes on a “grand scale” to keep its workers, officials said. Continue Reading

Seems to be a problem with most of the other non-oil businesses in town..no one wants to try to match what the oilfield pays and they wonder why staffing is so difficult..but I suppose that just means they can use foreign students and pay them peanuts since they can’t complain but it keeps wages low for the few non-foreign employees

staffing doesnt entirely have to do with pay. Are you aware that we have a 2% unemployment rate and very little housing in town. Added in with thousands of jobs, the numbers dont work. Not all businesses can afford to keep their doors open if they paid oil wages. The hundreds of foreigners in town are whats keeping many businesses going. California is bankrupt. Their city employees make minimum wage. Just because we have oil here, everyone thinks Mcdonalds should pay $20 an hour. Well in that case, pull out your wallet, your big mac is taking a huge price increase! Have you seen the quality of employees working at most places around town. They are people that would have been deemed “unhirable” 5 years ago. Foreigners are looking pretty good to me right now. They may not speak the best but they want to work.

I’m not paid enough either. And I am not even a government parasite.
I want more money. So … send me some money. I deserve it. That’s all you need to know.

I work at one of the places in Dickinson that hires foreign students. And as with all people, some are great and some not so much. And they get paid barely minimum wage (much like the rest of the staff). But most are happy to have jobs. And many of the non foreign who work there are happy just to have a job as they come from other areas of the country where NO ONE is hiring.
I just wish rent was cheaper. People moving here from where are no jobs cannot find a place to live, even in a camper.
